Senior Software Engineer - Front End (Library of Congress)

Team: IT

Location: US

Commitment: Full-time

Workplace Type: remote

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Front End (Library of Congress) based in the United States.

Join a remote-first engineering team delivering accessible, reliable, and user-centered digital services for the public sector. In this senior individual contributor role, you will build and maintain modern frontend applications that support important government services and initiatives. You will work primarily with Angular and modern web technologies, translating design specifications into responsive, accessible user experiences. Partnering with UX designers, backend engineers, QA specialists, and federal stakeholders, you will contribute throughout the software development lifecycle. You will also help strengthen engineering standards, automated testing, and shared design system components. This opportunity combines hands-on technical ownership with mentoring, collaboration, and the chance to make a meaningful impact through public-sector technology.

Accountabilities

As a Senior Software Engineer - Front End, you will take ownership of frontend development activities while contributing to delivery strategy, engineering quality, and continuous improvement. Your responsibilities will include:

    • Build, enhance, and maintain user-facing applications using Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

    • Translate Figma designs into responsive interfaces using federal Design System components and established frontend standards.

    • Develop and maintain end-to-end UI tests using frameworks such as Selenium and Cypress, supporting automated test coverage for new and modified code.

    • Ensure frontend implementations comply with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards in collaboration with UX and accessibility specialists.

    • Debug, optimize, and monitor applications across testing and production environments, contributing to CI/CD pipeline improvements as needed.

    • Participate in mandatory peer code reviews and apply the four-eyes principle to all code commits.

    • Collaborate with backend engineers, QA specialists, UX designers, and product stakeholders to deliver complete features from refinement through production deployment.

    • Participate in SAFe delivery ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.

    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of shared Design System components to ensure consistency across application modules.

    • Provide technical guidance and mentoring while developing leadership capabilities within the engineering team.

    • Support on-call rotations when required and build cross-functional knowledge through paired programming.

    • Requirements

The ideal candidate combines extensive frontend engineering experience with strong collaboration skills and a commitment to accessible, high-quality software. Required qualifications include:

      • At least 7 years of relevant engineering experience and a bachelors degree, or equivalent additional professional experience in place of a degree.

      • Proficiency in Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and responsive web development.

      • Experience translating Figma or equivalent design specifications into functional user interfaces.

      • Familiarity with automated testing frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright.

      • Working knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and their practical application in frontend development.

      • Experience integrating frontend applications with RESTful APIs and published OpenAPI specifications.

      • Hands-on experience with Git, GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, and modern frontend development workflows.

      • Ability to collaborate effectively with UX designers, product managers, backend engineers, and other technical stakeholders.

      • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences, customers, and federal stakeholders.

      • Ability to meet federal suitability requirements and successfully pass a background investigation.

      • Preferred qualifications include:

        • Previous experience supporting federal civilian agencies or government digital services programs.

        • An active Public Trust clearance.

        • Experience building or maintaining design systems using Angular Material, USWDS, Storybook, or comparable component frameworks.

        • Familiarity with frontend testing tools such as Cypress, Playwright, Jest, or Karma.

        • Exposure to AWS-hosted applications and cloud-native architectures.

        • Working knowledge of backend technologies such as Java or Python to support collaboration with backend engineering teams.

        • Experience with microfrontend architectures or enterprise frontend platforms.

        • Familiarity with SAFe or Agile delivery environments, including PI Planning and cross-functional coordination.

        • Experience integrating applications with Login.gov, Pay.gov, identity providers, or authentication services.

        • A track record of leading cross-functional frontend initiatives from initial concept through production delivery.

        • Benefits

          • Annual starting salary range of $100,000–$135,000, depending on skills, experience, and role-related responsibilities.

          • Company-subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance.

          • Flexible paid time off.

          • 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching.

          • Paid parental leave after one year of service.

          • Employee Assistance Program.

          • Fully remote work arrangement within the United States.

          • Opportunity to contribute to meaningful public-sector digital services within a collaborative, remote-first environment.
