Role Overview

The Quality Assurance Engineer (QAE) works within an Agile delivery team to ensure software quality is embedded throughout the development lifecycle. The role is responsible for contributing to test planning, test automation, functional and non-functional testing, and supporting continuous quality improvement across products and platforms.

Working closely with Business Analysts, Product Owners, Developers and other QA engineers, the QAE helps deliver reliable, scalable and high-quality software. The role emphasizes a shift-left testing approach, automated testing, API validation, and the effective use of AI-assisted testing tools to improve efficiency and coverage.

Role Responsibilities

• Contribute to test planning, test design and execution activities within Agile delivery teams.

• Develop, execute and maintain automated test suites for UI, API and integration testing.

• Collaborate with Business Analysts and Developers to understand requirements and define acceptance criteria.

• Support Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) and Test Driven Development (TDD) practices within the team.

• Identify, document and track defects through to resolution.

• Execute functional, regression, integration and exploratory testing activities.

• Participate in CI/CD pipelines and contribute to automated quality gates.

• Apply AI-assisted development and testing tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Amazon Q or equivalent) to improve test design, automation and productivity.

• Monitor test results and provide clear reporting on quality metrics and test progress.

• Assist in performance, load and non-functional testing activities.

• Help identify opportunities to increase automation coverage and improve testing efficiency.

• Promote quality best practices and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the team.

• Collaborate effectively with local and global team members to support successful product delivery.

Experience / Competences

Essential

• 2–5 years experience in software testing and quality assurance.

• Experience executing manual and automated testing activities within Agile teams.

• Working knowledge of UI automation tools such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium or equivalent.

• Experience using test management and defect tracking tools such as Jira and Zephyr.

• Proficient programming or scripting skills in Java, JavaScript, TypeScript or similar languages.

• Knowledge of API testing concepts and tools.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and source control platforms such as GitLab, TeamCity or Jenkins.

• Experience writing and maintaining test cases, test plans and test evidence.

• Understanding software development lifecycle (SDLC) principles.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.

• Effective communication and collaboration skills within cross-functional teams.

• Ability to manage priorities and deliver quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience using AI-assisted tooling to support testing, automation, documentation and troubleshooting activities.

Desired

• Exposure to financial services, trading platforms or capital markets technology.

• Knowledge of FIX protocol, electronic trading or trade lifecycle workflows.

• Experience with BDD frameworks such as Cucumber.

• Exposure to performance and non-functional testing tools such as K6 or JMeter.

• Understanding of cloud technologies such as AWS.

• ISTQB Foundation or equivalent testing qualification.

• Exposure to microservices and distributed system architectures.
