The Opportunity

As Development Manager for Architecture and DevOps, you will lead two specialist engineering squads whose work shapes the technical foundations, reliability and development experience of OrbusInfinity.

The Architecture squad owns technical vision, platform design and architectural governance for our flagship enterprise SaaS product, OrbusInfinity. DevOps at Orbus is a culture rather than a function to hand off to: our DevOps squad’s mission is to empower every engineering team with robust, self-service tooling and infrastructure, enabling squads to build, deploy and monitor their own applications while fostering a culture of shared ownership and continuous delivery excellence across the entire department.

You will provide clear people leadership and delivery accountability across both teams. Equally important is your ability to own the operational heartbeat of both squads: maintaining a clean, prioritised backlog, clear roadmaps and the discipline to keep delivery visible and on track. You will help the squads manage dependencies and risks, and ensure their work is aligned with Orbus’ wider technology strategy.

You will be a strategic, people-first leader who earns the respect of highly skilled engineers not by doing their job, but by enabling them to do it brilliantly. This role is suited to an experienced engineering leader with a background in software development or software architecture. You will not be expected to be the hands-on technical owner, but you will need sound architectural judgement and enough understanding of DevOps, cloud operations and reliability to lead the team effectively and make well-informed decisions.

You will lead between 6 and 10 direct reports and work closely with Product, Engineering and senior technical leadership. The role is fully remote, based in Poland, with quarterly (max) in-person events bringing together squads from across all regions. You will be employed on a permanent contract (umowa o pracę) with our Polish entity.

Why this role matters

Your leadership will help two specialist teams focus on the work that matters most, while enabling the wider engineering organisation to deliver and operate OrbusInfinity with greater confidence.

What You Will Do

Lead and develop the teams

· Lead, coach and develop the Architecture and DevOps squads, supporting performance, engagement and career development.

· Set clear expectations and support the growth of experienced technical professionals.

· Hold regular one-to-ones and ensure direct reports have meaningful development plans.

· Lead hiring, onboarding and team capability development as required.

· Create an environment in which technical professionals can work with appropriate autonomy and accountability.

Own priorities and delivery

· Own backlog prioritisation and roadmap decisions for both squads within the agreed technology strategy.

· Translate strategic goals into clear priorities, outcomes and delivery plans.

· Maintain visibility of commitments, progress, risks and dependencies.

· Identify and remove blockers, escalating issues when decisions or support are needed.

· Manage cross-squad dependencies and ensure delivery risks are addressed early.

· Work closely with Product Managers, Development Managers and senior Engineering leaders to coordinate priorities.

Lead Architecture

· Lead the Architecture squad’s ownership of technical vision, platform design and architectural governance for OrbusInfinity.

· Ensure architectural priorities are understood and connected to wider engineering needs.

· Provide informed challenge on technical proposals and trade-offs.

· Support consistent engineering standards and improved technical decision-making across squads.

Lead DevOps and reliability

· Lead the DevOps squad’s mission to empower every engineering team with robust, self-service tooling and infrastructure.

· Enable engineering teams to build, deploy and monitor their own applications.

· Provide leadership for production operations, reliability and incident management.

· Review operational risks and ensure follow-up actions are prioritised and completed.

· Foster shared ownership and continuous delivery excellence across the entire Engineering department.

Work across Engineering

· Represent Architecture and DevOps in relevant engineering forums.

· Support knowledge-sharing and collaboration across squads.

· Contribute to improvements in engineering standards, processes and ways of working.

· Build trusted relationships with Product, Engineering and senior technical stakeholders.

What You Will Bring

Essential

· Experience leading or managing software engineering teams.

· Experience leading and developing experienced technical professionals.

· A background in software development or software architecture.

· Sound judgement in software architecture and technical design.

· Experience owning or managing priorities, roadmaps, dependencies and delivery risks.

· The ability to lead teams responsible for DevOps, cloud operations, reliability or production support.

· Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

· Experience working with distributed or international teams.

· Fluency in English, as the working language of the team and wider organisation.

Nice to Have

· Previous hands-on experience with Azure DevOps pipelines, Helm, Bicep or ARM.

· Familiarity with Kubernetes, CI/CD and cloud-native development practices.

· Experience working in a SaaS product company.

· Experience with multi-regional or high-availability infrastructure.

· Experience with production incident management and operational improvement.

· Experience hiring and building specialist technical teams.

· Experience working with architecture governance, technical strategy or platform engineering.

· Experience working with agile delivery methods such as Scrum or Kanban.

A note on experience

We are interested in the capabilities that will help you succeed, not a perfect match with every tool or background listed above. Strong software leadership and architectural breadth matter most. Specific DevOps tools and practices can be learned where the underlying judgement and curiosity are present.
