Our client is a U.S.-based professional services company operating in the luxury design industry. The organization combines creativity, precision, and exceptional client service while managing complex projects across multiple business divisions.
The company is strengthening its internal finance function and is looking for an experienced accounting professional to take ownership of its accounting operations and QuickBooks environment.
About the Role
Were looking for an experienced Financial Controller — QuickBooks Specialist with deep, hands-on QuickBooks expertise to take ownership of accounting operations, financial reporting, and the companys transition from outsourced accounting to a fully in-house finance function.
Reporting directly to the CFO, youll own the General Ledger, month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, and accounting controls, while supervising Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities.
QuickBooks expertise is at the center of this role. Were looking for someone who can go beyond day-to-day usage and confidently configure, optimize, and implement QuickBooks based on the companys accounting and reporting needs.
This is a hands-on position within a small, collaborative team. Youll also interact directly with clients on accounting-related requests and support operational responsibilities beyond traditional accounting when needed.

QuickBooks & Accounting Operations
- Configure and optimize QuickBooks Online and/or Desktop to support accounting and reporting requirements.
- Lead or support QuickBooks implementations and system configuration.
- Lead the transition of the General Ledger from an outside accounting firm to an in-house function.
- Own and maintain the General Ledger and Chart of Accounts.
- Establish and maintain appropriate accounting classification standards.
- Perform reconciliations and independently run the monthly close in QuickBooks.
- Improve accounting workflows, processes, and financial controls.
Financial Reporting & Cash Management
- Prepare accurate financial statements and management reports.
- Prepare and review P&L statements across business divisions.
- Oversee bank reconciliations and monitor the companys cash position.
- Provide timely financial information to the CFO and executive leadership.
- Identify discrepancies and proactively resolve accounting issues.
- Interface directly with clients regarding accounting-related requests when needed.
- Communicate financial matters clearly and professionally to accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
- Supervise Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable activities.
- Review and approve invoices, hours reports, and client statements.
- Review payroll, vendor payments, and expense submissions.
- Ensure accounting standards and procedures are consistently followed.
- Support operational and non-accounting responsibilities that arise within a small-team environment.
- Coordinate payroll tax, sales tax, 1099s, and related tax matters.
- Execute accounting policies established by the CFO with precision.
- Maintain strong accounting controls and a high standard of accuracy.
- Handle sensitive financial and client information with discretion.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience as a Financial Controller, Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or similar role.
- Deep, hands-on professional QuickBooks expertise.
- Significant professional experience using QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, or both.
- Proven experience configuring QuickBooks and/or leading a QuickBooks implementation.
- Proven ability to take full ownership of the General Ledger.
- Hands-on experience performing reconciliations and independently running month-end close in QuickBooks.
- Experience generating financial statements and management reports.
- Strong understanding of Chart of Accounts structures, accounting principles, classifications, and financial controls.
- Experience supervising AP, AR, bookkeeping, or accounting functions.
- Ability to communicate directly and professionally with clients.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and consistently high accuracy.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable supporting operational responsibilities outside traditional accounting when needed.
- Advanced English proficiency (C1/C2) with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Availability to work with required overlap during U.S. business hours.
- Experience transitioning an accounting function from outsourced to in-house.
- Experience with BigTime or similar project accounting software.
- Experience within professional services, construction, architecture, engineering, interior design, or related industries.
- Experience in luxury architecture, interior design, or high-end residential projects is highly desirable.
- CPA or equivalent accounting certification is a plus.
Success in this role will be measured by your ability to:
- Configure and manage QuickBooks confidently and independently.
- Successfully support or lead the implementation and optimization of QuickBooks.
- Maintain an accurate, reliable, and well-controlled General Ledger.
- Complete reconciliations and month-end close accurately and on schedule.
- Deliver reliable financial statements and management reporting.
- Successfully transition accounting operations in-house.
- Maintain high accounting standards across the team.
- Communicate confidently and professionally with clients and U.S.-based colleagues.
- Operate independently with a consistently low error rate.

Candidates must also be comfortable working in a small, fast-paced team, interacting with clients when necessary, and supporting operational responsibilities beyond traditional accounting.
The engagement is structured as a full-time contractor position with a short initial trial period and long-term intent based on performance and fit.
