About Magic

Magic is a leading modern outsourcing platform that connects SMBs to high-quality remote workers, from SDRs to virtual assistants and more. With roots in Silicon Valley and backing from top venture capitalists, our workers are supercharged with a combination of the latest AI technology and training. We came out of Y Combinator in 2015, have grown to 1,000+ remote workers, and are backed by Sequoia Capital with over $30M in funding.

Background

Founded: 2015 · Funding: $30M (Y Combinator, Sequoia backed) · Industry: HRTech, Virtual Assistant Platform · Employees: 672 · HQ: San Francisco, CA / Manila, PH
Why This Role Exists

Matchers:
Every client Magic serves depends on being matched with the right assistant — and that match only happens because someone made a smart, well-informed call on candidate readiness. That someone is you. Youre the final quality checkpoint before a candidate meets a client. When you get it right, clients stay. When clients stay, Magic grows.

Qualifiers:
Before any candidate reaches a Matcher, someone has to determine whether theyre even ready to be considered — at volume, without cutting corners. Youre the first quality gate in the pipeline. Your accuracy under volume determines whether Matchers downstream are working with a genuinely vetted pool or a noisy one.

Youre an in-house recruiter of Magic. This role does start as a freelance engagement, with a real path to in-house absorption for strong performers.

What Youll Actually Do

Matcher
— Search Magics existing candidate pool for good matches, keep a backup list ready, schedule and conduct final interviews, make the readiness call, coordinate with Sales/Support/Customer Success, write client-ready reports, meet daily/monthly targets, flex to support other recruitment teams.

Qualifier — Run structured, high-volume candidate screens against defined criteria, verify technical setup and reliability before candidates advance, maintain process adherence and accurate documentation at volume, escalate borderline calls rather than guessing, coordinate handoffs to Matchers with complete context, meet daily/monthly screening targets.

What Winning Looks Like

Matcher
  • You consistently endorse candidates who meet client expectations — your placement quality score reflects judgment, not just effort
  • You complete daily interview targets without sacrificing evaluation accuracy
  • You catch candidate readiness issues before they reach the client
  • Your evaluation reports are structured, concise, and client-ready
  • You show up with the same energy in your sixth interview as your first
  • After a difficult call or a mistake, youre back to full capacity within minutes

Qualifier
  • You hit daily screening volume targets (benchmark: ~16/shift) without accuracy dropping as the shift goes on
  • Your pass/fail calls hold up when a Matcher or manager reviews them — few reversals
  • You flag borderline cases instead of guessing either direction
  • Your screening notes give the next person everything they need, no re-work required
Your Superpowers

Matcher:
Sustained Energy · Precision Over Speed · Emotional Reset · Ownership · Learning Agility · People Instinct

Qualifier:
Process Discipline · Volume Stamina · Judgment at Speed · Technical Reliability · Ownership · Learning Agility

What You Bring

  • Bachelors degree (any field) or equivalent work experience
  • Excellent English — strong speaking, writing, and structured communication
  • Strong attention to detail — your output directly affects downstream hiring decisions
  • Full availability for assigned shifts (Monday–Friday or Tuesday–Saturday, night/evening/day, assigned based on business needs), with advance notice for changes
  • Reliable home office: computer, headset, video conferencing setup, quiet environment, 25+ Mbps internet with backup
  • A demonstrated ability to commit and finish what you start
  • Matcher-specific: prior candidate-facing interviewing or recruitment experience preferred
  • Qualifier-specific: prior high-volume screening, compliance review, or structured-assessment experience preferred

Our Hiring Process

Application → Typeform Screen → Resume Review → Initial Interview → Hiring Manager Interview → Final Interview → Background Check → Job Offer → 2-Week Training

The Reality

Matcher:
Every shift youll handle 4–6 candidate interviews while managing real-time scheduling requests and team coordination, running ATS, HubSpot, and Magic systems simultaneously.

Qualifier:
Every shift youll run a high volume of structured screens (benchmark ~16), maintaining the same accuracy on interview #16 as interview #1.

Both: schedules are assigned based on business needs and may include night, evening, or day hours. You will feel overwhelmed in Month 1 — thats normal. What separates people who succeed is the willingness to learn fast, reset quickly, and ask good questions.

Before You Apply — Quick Gut Check
  • Are you genuinely available for any assigned shift — not just your preferred schedule?
  • Do you have a professional home office setup with reliable internet right now?
  • Do you take pride in precision and accuracy, not just speed?
  • Can you reset quickly after a difficult conversation and bring full energy to the next one?
  • Can you commit exclusively to Magic — no other VA/EA or comparable clients during training or production?
  • (Qualifier only) Can you stay accurate on your 16th screen of the day, not just your 1st?

If that sounds like you, wed love to hear from you.

Whats In It For You

    • $3.20/hour (approx. ₱26,000–29,000/month, paid through Deel) — Matcher or Qualifier
    • 6-month evaluation period with a path to full-time conversion
    • Growth path: Associate (0–6 mo) → Recruitment Specialist (6–12 mo) → Senior Specialist (1–2 yr) → Recruitment Lead/Assistant Manager (2–3 yr) → Recruitment Manager (3+ yr)
