Senior DevOps Engineer

Team: IT

Location: Germany

Commitment: Full-time

Workplace Type: remote

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer based in Germany.

Join a fast-growing European technology environment focused on protecting businesses from modern web threats and securing web traffic at scale.
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you’ll take ownership of infrastructure automation, deployment pipelines, and the systems powering critical services across multiple data centers.
You’ll work hands-on with Kubernetes, Ansible, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, Linux, and modern observability tooling to build reliable and scalable infrastructure.
The role spans the full development lifecycle, from infrastructure-as-code and automated deployments to production operations, monitoring, and incident response.
You’ll collaborate closely with product and engineering teams while helping solve complex challenges around scalability, availability, security, and performance.
The environment values technical ownership, continuous learning, thoughtful collaboration, and the confidence to challenge established approaches.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a remote-first engineering organization where infrastructure quality is treated with the same importance as product quality.

Accountabilities

    • Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure-as-code solutions using Ansible and Terraform, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and automation.

    • Plan, organize, monitor, and continuously improve infrastructure performance across multiple environments and data centers.

    • Maintain, operate, and optimize existing infrastructure, deployment systems, and CI/CD pipelines.

    • Build and improve automated deployment processes for applications across testing and production environments.

    • Develop and maintain toolchains, workflows, and automation that reduce manual operational work and improve engineering efficiency.

    • Set up and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and tracing to ensure system visibility and reliability.

    • Participate in incident analysis, troubleshooting, and root-cause resolution for infrastructure and deployment issues.

    • Help ensure infrastructure meets appropriate security, reliability, and compliance standards.

    • Document infrastructure, operational procedures, improvements, and technical decisions.

    • Collaborate continuously with product and engineering teams to understand requirements and deliver robust infrastructure solutions.

    • Contribute to decisions around scalability, availability, performance, and architecture, while constructively challenging approaches when necessary.

    • Maintain high standards for the quality, maintainability, and reliability of infrastructure code.

    • Requirements:

      • 5+ years of professional DevOps experience, including substantial hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Git, and infrastructure automation.

      • Deep expertise with Ansible, particularly in complex environments, combined with practical experience using Terraform.

      • Strong knowledge of Linux, networking, and virtualization.

      • Strong hands-on experience with Grafana, Prometheus, and Alertmanager for monitoring and observability.

      • Experience with Linux software packaging and distribution formats, including DEB, RPM, and Docker.

      • Strong scripting skills, particularly with Bash.

      • Experience with web security and an understanding of web traffic distribution and related infrastructure concepts.

      • Experience working with SQL and object storage, including data handling and related infrastructure workflows.

      • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, GitLab, and CI/CD practices.

      • Experience with Golang is a significant advantage.

      • A strong understanding of infrastructure-as-code principles and end-to-end automated deployment pipelines.

      • Curiosity, enthusiasm, and a genuine desire to continuously learn and improve.

      • Strong ownership and decision-making skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and build solutions as part of a team.

      • Good time-management and asynchronous communication skills suited to a remote-first engineering environment.

      • Ability to work independently while contributing constructively to a collaborative, expert-driven team.

      • Benefits:

        • Fully remote: Work remotely within Europe and enjoy the flexibility of a remote-first engineering environment.

        • International environment: Collaborate with distributed teams working across multiple countries and data centers.

        • Technical ownership: Take meaningful responsibility for infrastructure, automation, reliability, and operational excellence.

        • Modern technology stack: Work with technologies including Linux, GitLab, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, RabbitMQ, Redis, PostgreSQL, and ClickHouse.

        • Learning opportunities: Work on challenging infrastructure and web-security problems while continuously expanding your technical expertise.

        • Collaborative culture: Join an expert-focused environment built around professional collaboration rather than internal competition.

        • Impact and autonomy: Contribute directly to infrastructure decisions and help shape scalable, highly available systems.

        • Inclusive workplace: The organization actively encourages applications from diverse backgrounds and is committed to creating an inclusive working environment.

        • Location: The role is remote, with candidates required to be based in an eligible European location.
