About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Databricks Apps Developer to design and build interactive, user-facing data and AI applications on the Databricks platform. This role focuses on front-end development and user-centric workflow design, using Databricks Apps to turn trusted lakehouse data, analytics, and AI models into intuitive applications that users rely on to make decisions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with React, TypeScript/JavaScript, and REST API integration, along with hands-on experience connecting applications to Databricks capabilities such as Unity Catalog, Delta tables, Databricks SQL, AI/BI dashboards, Genie, and Model Serving. This role involves collaborating with data engineers, data scientists, and stakeholders to rapidly prototype, iterate, and deliver production-ready applications that go beyond standalone dashboards.  Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy interactive data and AI applications using Databricks Apps.
• Build React-based user interfaces and reusable front-end components using TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Integrate applications with Databricks capabilities, including Unity Catalog, Delta tables, Databricks SQL, AI/BI dashboards, Genie, MLflow, and Databricks REST APIs.
• Integrate AI and LLM features through secure APIs and Databricks Model Serving endpoints to enable prompt-driven and context-enriched user workflows.
• Develop lightweight back-end services and APIs using Python (e.g., FastAPI, Flask) or Node.js to connect front-end features to underlying data and models.
• Enable user-driven filters, inputs, and scenario (what-if) analysis, with clear explanations of assumptions and recommendation rationale.
• Partner with data engineers and data scientists to connect application features to Delta Live Tables, Jobs, Workflows, and analytical models.
• Implement application authentication, authorization, and data access controls in alignment with Unity Catalog governance and federal security requirements.
• Translate stakeholder goals into user stories and acceptance criteria to guide application feature development.
• Rapidly prototype and iterate on solutions, incorporating user feedback to refine UX and functionality.
• Develop reusable UI components, templates, and deployment patterns to accelerate future application builds.
• Use Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines to manage application code and deployments.
• Document front-end architecture, design patterns, and application configurations for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and communicate progress, risks, and dependencies using tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Stay current on Databricks Apps and platform capabilities to recommend best-fit solutions.

Requirements

 Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of experience in front-end or full-stack software development.
• Strong proficiency in React, TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and UI state management frameworks.
• Experience integrating front-end applications with REST APIs, serverless endpoints, or cloud-hosted microservices.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks capabilities such as Databricks Apps, Unity Catalog, Delta Live Tables, Databricks SQL, Model Serving endpoints, AI/BI dashboards, and Genie.
• Working knowledge of Python and SQL to support back-end and data access development.
• Proficiency with Git-based version control and modern development workflows.
• Ability to design intuitive user experiences and translate complex concepts into polished UI workflows.
• Experience working in Agile development environments.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust determination.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated success developing and deploying React-based applications on Databricks Apps.
• Experience with Python app frameworks supported by Databricks Apps, such as Streamlit, Dash, or Gradio.
• 5+ years of experience in application development.
• Experience building data- or AI-driven applications, including LLM-enabled or generative AI user experiences.
• Experience operationalizing ML models or analytical logic into production applications, including MLflow.
• Understanding of UX design concepts, wireframing, and rapid prototyping tools such as Figma or Miro.
• Familiarity with Databricks workspace configuration and administration.
• Databricks certifications (e.g., Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate or Generative AI Engineer Associate).
• Experience supporting federal government programs, especially the Department of Veterans Affairs.
