About the Role

Were seeking an Associate Software Engineer for our Shared Services team who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow into a well-rounded platform engineer. Were the internal services team behind HeroDevs, the company that keeps critical open-source software secure long after it reaches end of life. Our mission is to build the platforms, pipelines, and automation that the rest of the company runs on, including the systems that deliver data and secure package releases to our integration partners. We care about doing things carefully, automating what shouldnt be manual, and giving new engineers a supportive place to grow.

Youll work closely with experienced engineers on our team to build, test, and automate the pipelines that move data between our internal systems, our APIs, and our integration partners.

Your manager will define the scope of each project and set the approach for how we work with partner data, so you can focus on building. This is a learning-focused role and a strong fit for recent graduates with a solid programming foundation who want real-world experience with APIs, automation, and production systems.

Responsibilites

• Build, test, and maintain automated jobs that deliver data from internal systems to our integration partners
• Work with existing HeroDevs data sources and internal APIs to retrieve, transform, and validate data
• Write scripts and small services using JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, or Python
• Build and maintain CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions
• Add monitoring and alerting so delivery failures surface quickly, and help triage them when they do
• Troubleshoot and debug integration issues, including malformed data and failed deliveries
• Collaborate with team members through code reviews and daily standups
• Write clear technical documentation for the integrations you build

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Development, or a related field
• Strong foundation in at least one programming language (JavaScript/TypeScript or Python preferred)
• Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, and how web services communicate
• Familiarity with databases and basic SQL queries
• Experience with Git or other version control tools
• Curiosity, accountability, and a willingness to learn new technologies
• Effective written communication and the ability to work well in a distributed team

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Exposure to Node.js and the npm ecosystem
• Familiarity with CI/CD tooling, especially GitHub Actions
• Experience with cloud services (AWS, GCP, or Azure) or containerization with Docker
• Coursework, internship, or personal project experience with APIs, data pipelines, ETL, or automation
• Familiarity with Agile development and tools like GitHub, Jira, or Docker
• Interest in open-source software and its long-term maintenance
