Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Coinbase One)

Were hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Backend to join the Coinbase One team within the Consumer & Business group. Coinbase One is Coinbases subscription membership product, offering a suite of premium benefits that supercharge the Coinbase experience for paying members. Youll own the backend systems that power the membership lifecycle, from sign-up and payment processing to benefit delivery and targeted promotions, directly driving subscriber growth and retention for millions of customers.

What youll do:

• Own the design, development, and operation of backend services powering the Coinbase One membership lifecycle, including sign-up flows, subscription management, and recurring payment processing
• Build scalable platform capabilities that enable targeted benefit delivery, promotional incentives, and personalized membership experiences across the Coinbase retail application
• Partner with frontend, product, design, and payments teams to scope, ship, and iterate on customer-facing membership features from concept through production
• Drive backend architecture decisions for the Coinbase One product area, establishing patterns for reliability, extensibility, and integration with broader Coinbase platform services
• Improve service reliability, observability, and performance across Coinbase Ones backend stack, proactively identifying and resolving production issues

Required Skills and Experience:

• 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience with a track record of shipping and operating production services at scale
• Demonstrated experience building subscription, payments, or commerce systems, including recurring billing, entitlements, or promotional logic
• Proficiency in Go or a similar backend systems language (Java, C++, Rust) with demonstrated ability to adapt to a Go-centric codebase
• Proven ability to design and maintain APIs and distributed systems that integrate across multiple product surfaces (web and mobile)
• Track record of taking ambiguous projects from scoping through production with minimal oversight, including cross-functional collaboration with product and design partners
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
