Job Title: Medical Scientific Liaison (MSL) – Mexico / LATAM

Role Overview
We are seeking a high-performing, bilingual Medical Science Liaison (MSL) to serve as our primary scientific representative in Latin America, with an approximately 80% focus on Mexico and broader Latin America, and ~20% support of projects in other global markets. This field-based role is critical to sustaining our momentum in Latin America, where recent Medical Affairs engagement has driven significant adoption of diagnostic testing.

The successful candidate will combine deep clinical expertise in oncology and molecular diagnostics with a strong understanding of the healthcare and reimbursement landscape across Mexico and LATAM, and the flexibility to support activities in other key regions (e.g., EU, Middle East, South Asia). This individual will foster long-term partnerships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals (HCPs), payors, insurance companies, distribution partners, and internal stakeholders.

The role will report to the International Business Lead and will be closely supported by the US-based Medical team leads. The MSL will collaborate closely with the commercial organization, maintaining strong commercial awareness while operating within the remit and compliance requirements of a Medical function.

Key Responsibilities

Regional Scientific Expertise (Mexico / LATAM focus – ~80%)

  • Serve as the subject matter expert in the Mexican and LATAM oncology landscape, including diagnostic and reimbursement pathways.

  • Deliver proactive and reactive scientific communication regarding Tempus oncology products, diagnostic assays, and clinical utility data.

  • Support market access and reimbursement activities by providing robust scientific, clinical, and health-economic support materials and education to payors, institutions, and other stakeholders.

Global Project Support (~20%)

  • Provide scientific and educational support for select projects and engagements in other global markets (including EU, USA, Middle East, and South Asia), as needed.

  • Participate in global Medical Affairs initiatives, advisory boards, and educational events, ensuring alignment and knowledge-sharing between LATAM and other regions.

KOL Engagement & Relationship Building

  • Establish, nurture, and maintain relationships with local and regional KOLs, researchers, and clinical decision-makers.

  • Execute a targeted engagement strategy to deepen trust and ensure consistent, compliant scientific exchange.

Healthcare & Reimbursement Landscape Navigation

  • Act as the local liaison for Mexico and LATAM to address regional clinical, regulatory, and reimbursement needs.

  • Facilitate local adoption of diagnostics by providing country-specific education and supporting local data generation or clinical study initiatives as needed.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of market access dynamics and reimbursement pathways and translate these insights into actionable strategies.

Strategic Insight Gathering

  • Act as the “Voice of the Customer” for Mexico and LATAM.

  • Systematically gather and report market insights (e.g., barriers to adoption, reimbursement challenges, unmet educational needs, emerging testing trends) to inform global product development, market access, and medical strategy.

Educational Delivery

  • Facilitate high-quality scientific and educational sessions (e.g., grand rounds, regional advisory meetings, tumor boards, payer/HTA presentations) to broaden the understanding of precision medicine and molecular oncology among HCPs and other stakeholders.

  • Develop and deliver training to internal teams and distribution partners across LATAM and, on an ad hoc basis, in other regions.

Cross-Functional & Commercial Collaboration

  • Partner closely with regional commercial, market access, and distribution teams to ensure scientific initiatives support broader business objectives while maintaining Medical function independence and compliance.

  • Provide scientific training and ongoing educational support to distribution partners and commercial colleagues, ensuring accurate and balanced communication of clinical data.

  • Collaborate with the global team and US-based Medical team to ensure consistency of messaging, strategy alignment, and best-practice sharing.

  • Maintain strong commercial awareness (market dynamics, competitors, pricing/reimbursement trends) while strictly adhering to non-promotional Medical Affairs standards and applicable regulations.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 2+ years of MSL experience in diagnostics, biotech, or pharmaceutical industries, ideally within oncology and/or molecular diagnostics. Prior experience in LATAM markets, with demonstrated engagement in market access, reimbursement, or payer-facing activities.

  • Clinical Knowledge: Strong background in molecular oncology, comprehensive genomic profiling, tumor evolution, and relevant targeted therapy options.

  • Market Access & Reimbursement Understanding: Demonstrated understanding of healthcare systems and reimbursement pathways in Mexico and, ideally, broader LATAM; ability to support market access and reimbursement-related discussions and initiatives.

  • Regulatory Familiarity: Understanding of regional healthcare and regulatory frameworks (e.g., local clinical trial support requirements, compliance standards, promotional vs. non-promotional boundaries).

  • Communication: Exceptional public speaking and presentation skills; ability to simplify complex genomic/scientific data for diverse clinical, payer, and internal audiences.

  • Collaboration: Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with commercial, market access, and distribution partners while upholding Medical Affairs independence and compliance requirements.

  • Independence: Self-starter with an ownership mindset, capable of working autonomously in a rapidly evolving territory and managing competing priorities across LATAM and other global projects.

  • Language: Fluency in Spanish (native or professional fluency) and English is required. Proficiency in Portuguese is considered a significant plus.

  • Education: Advanced scientific or medical degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, MSN, BSN, or equivalent).

  • Travel: Ability to travel extensively within Mexico and across the LATAM region (up to approximately 70% of time). Eligibility and ability to travel widely to other regions, including the EU, USA, Middle East, and South Asia, to support ad hoc educational events, scientific meetings, and global projects.
