The Senior Accountant provides operational financial management and resource support services necessary to support budget execution, financial reporting, staffing analysis, and operational resource management activities. Responsibilities include budget execution support, financial analysis and reporting, staffing and funding analysis support, resource planning support, portfolio management, and financial management operations support.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor budget execution activities to ensure expenditures align with approved funding, organizational priorities, and applicable financial regulations.
- Perform detailed financial analysis, identify trends and variances, and prepare recurring and ad hoc financial reports for management review.
- Analyze staffing requirements, labor utilization, workforce costs, and funding allocations to support resource planning and decision-making.
- Develop financial forecasts and resource projections to support operational and strategic planning initiatives.
- Track financial performance metrics and provide recommendations to improve efficiency, cost effectiveness, and budget utilization.
- Support portfolio management activities by monitoring project funding, expenditures, and financial performance across multiple initiatives.
- Reconcile financial records and ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established accounting standards and internal controls.
- Coordinate with program managers, contract managers, and leadership to provide financial guidance and decision-support analysis.
- Maintain financial documentation, supporting schedules, audit records, and budget tracking tools.
- Assist with financial reviews, audits, budget formulation efforts, and operational reporting requirements.
- Identify financial risks, funding shortfalls, and resource constraints and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Support day-to-day financial management operations and special projects as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, financial management, budgeting, financial analysis, or related financial operations.
- Demonstrated experience supporting budget execution, financial reporting, and financial analysis functions.
- Experience preparing financial reports, forecasts, budget status reports, and management briefings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Experience analyzing financial data and developing recommendations to improve operational performance.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required Government suitability determination or clearance, if applicable.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and accountability.
- U.S. citizenship may be required depending on contract requirements.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial management practices, budgeting methodologies, and financial reporting.
- Experience performing budget tracking, cost analysis, variance analysis, forecasting, and resource allocation activities.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, complex formulas, financial modeling, and data analysis.
- Ability to analyze large data sets and translate findings into actionable recommendations for leadership.
- Knowledge of financial controls, audit readiness practices, and compliance requirements.
- Experience supporting Government, federal contracting, or regulated environments preferred.
- Strong understanding of workforce planning, labor cost management, and staffing analysis.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial information to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across functional teams.
- Experience supporting portfolio management, project financial oversight, or operational resource management activities.
