This post will work at the heart of the Scottish Government’s approach to energy within the Strategic Energy Projects team in the Energy Strategy and Markets Unit, which is part of the Energy and Climate Change Directorate. The Strategic Energy Projects team helps co-ordinate and provide strategic oversight of the work of various policy areas to achieve SGs overall priorities for a renewables transition that brings significant wider benefits to the economy, consumers and communities.

This is a varied role that provides an opportunity to support on ministerial briefings, PQs, FMQs and MiCases. This will involve keeping abreast of relevant news and coordination with members of the team on updates. To support this, you will be responsible for maintaining core briefs, monitoring and updating these with key policy developments. You may also provide programme management support. 

Effective stakeholder engagement is key to this role, which will involve providing a Secretariat to the First Minister’s Scottish Energy Advisory Board (SEAB) and leading on a programme of engagement with the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC). The successful applicant will have opportunities to make lasting connections across government and with external stakeholders. There will be a need to work closely with colleagues across Scottish Government, in particular the wider Directorate for Energy and Climate Change, Directorate for Economic Development and Directorate for Offshore Wind.

We have an opportunity for a B2 Policy Officer to join the Strategic Energy Projects Team on a permanent basis to support cross-cutting and strategic areas of energy, including co-ordination of the Energy FMQ and providing Secretariat to the Scottish Energy Advisory Board.
