Fabrication Operations Assistant Relocation assistance available if moving from out of the area up to $4500

POSITION SUMMARY

The Fabrication Operations Assistant is an entry/developmental cross-functional position that supports several areas of M J & H Fabrications custom fabrication operation. The role is designed for a dependable, motivated employee with useful shop, fabrication, computer, or technical aptitude who is interested in learning additional parts of the business. Work may include CNC/ProNest programming support, estimating support, Quality Control documentation, safety documentation, and general fabrication/production support. Responsibilities will vary based on workload, company needs, training, and the employees developing skills. Relocation assistance available if moving from out of the area up to $4500

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with and learn ProNest programming and nesting, including reviewing fabrication drawings, preparing and verifying parts and cut programs, maintaining organized CNC files, and helping improve material utilization.
• Support plasma cutting operations by helping coordinate cut work, reviewing information needed for production, and assisting with basic troubleshooting or production questions as experience develops.
• Assist Estimating with drawing and specification review, material takeoffs, quantity calculations, material requirements, and organizing information used to prepare estimates and quotes.
• Support the documentation and recordkeeping side of Quality Control, including job travelers, production and quality records, material identification/traceability records, drawing and revision control, nonconformance documentation, corrective-action records, and customer-required quality documentation.
• Assist with Safety documentation and program support, including training records, JSA/JHA documentation, toolbox-talk records, incident and near-miss documentation, corrective-action tracking, and shop safety paperwork.
• Work with shop and office personnel to help resolve questions involving drawings, material information, documentation, job records, and production requirements.
• Maintain accurate and organized electronic and paper records associated with assigned work.
•  Assist with process improvements, data gathering, technical tasks, and other fabrication or operational support as assigned.
• Develop competency in multiple functional areas over time and take on additional responsibility as training, knowledge, and ability increase.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

•  Previous experience in every functional area is not required; relevant fabrication, shop, computer, technical, estimating, CNC, quality-documentation, or safety experience is beneficial.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software, systems, and technical processes.
•  Ability to read fabrication/shop drawings or demonstrated aptitude and willingness to develop this skill.
• Experience with ProNest or similar nesting software, CNC/plasma equipment, CAD, Excel, estimating/material takeoffs, or fabrication documentation is preferred but not required in every area.
• Good basic math and measurement skills with mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Dependable work history and ability to follow instructions, ask questions, and work independently after appropriate training.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Strong willingness to learn and develop across CNC/ProNest, Estimating, Quality documentation, Safety, and general fabrication operations.
• Ability to organize information, maintain accurate records, and pay attention to details that affect production or job documentation.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both shop and office personnel.
• Ability to recognize when information, drawings, dimensions, or documentation do not appear correct and obtain clarification rather than guessing.
• Ability to manage changing priorities and move between different types of work based on company and production needs.
• Problem-solving mindset, initiative, and comfort working with computers and technical information.

SAFETY & QUALITY EXPECTATIONS

• Follow all company safety rules, PPE requirements, shop procedures, and instructions applicable to assigned work.
• Maintain accurate documentation and protect drawing revision control, material traceability information, and job records where required.
• Report discrepancies, missing information, or documentation problems promptly rather than making unsupported assumptions.
• Understand that the Quality Control portion of this position is primarily documentation and recordkeeping support; this position is not intended to serve as the primary QC inspector.
• Perform assigned work carefully and accurately while supporting efficient shop and office operations.

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work may be divided between office/computer tasks and time in an active fabrication shop.
• Must be able to safely walk through production areas, stand, bend, reach, and access work areas as needed to gather information or support assigned tasks.
• May work around welding, grinding, plasma cutting, cranes, forklifts, noise, heat, fumes, and other normal fabrication-shop conditions.
• Must be able to wear required PPE when entering or working in production areas.

• Pay is dependent on experience, skills, and qualifications. Insurance benefits are available after successful completion of the probationary period.
