Reinsurance Lead ActuaryResponsibilities:
Reinsurance Pricing & Portfolio
- Own the actuarial pricing for SUIs casualty facultative book — experience and exposure rating, loss picks, and renewal assumptions — partnering closely with underwriters
- Build the pricing and portfolio-steering framework for SUIs growth lines: property facultative, broker facilities, and casualty treaty
- Perform loss ratio analysis, rate adequacy reviews, trend studies, and experience monitoring across the reinsurance book
- Stand behind your numbers — explain methodologies, loss picks, and renewal outcomes to underwriters, cedents, brokers, and leadership
Structuring & Growth
- Help shape how SUI grows — from a single casualty fac program into a multi-line reinsurance platform — bringing the actuarial lens to new-line launches and facility design
- Evaluate exposure, aggregation, and cat where it touches the book; support structuring and capacity decisions
- Bring rigor to portfolio construction: which risks, at what price, at what attachment, for what return
- Be comfortable marketing programs, updates and new initiatives to carrier partners
Data Science & AI
- Build SUIs data-science infrastructure from the ground up — the pipelines, the rating tools, the dashboards, the data architecture that the whole division will run on
- Apply modern data science — predictive modeling, GLMs, gradient boosting, clustering — to reinsurance pricing and portfolio problems
- Leverage AI tools (LLMs, agentic workflows, Claude) to automate and augment the work
- Modernize legacy spreadsheet-driven workflows into something youd actually be proud of
Leadership & Cross-Functional Impact
- Sit on the Chief Actuarys leadership team — your work and your judgment shape strategy, not just spreadsheets
- Be the single actuarial point of contact for the reinsurance division: trusted, accountable, and visible
- Work directly with underwriting, claims, data engineering, analytics, and leadership across Novacore
- Contribute to tech-stack decisions — youll evaluate platforms, prototype solutions, and build the reinsurance actuarial infrastructure
Qualifications:
Foundation
- Strong grounding in mathematical statistics, actuarial science, and practical (re)insurance fundamentals
- Reinsurance experience strongly preferred — treaty and/or facultative pricing, on the carrier, reinsurer, or broker side
- P&C and commercial-lines background; casualty exposure a plus given where SUI starts
- Progress toward CAS designation is valued; ACAS/FCAS is a plus but not required — we care more about what you can do than what letters follow your name
Technical Chops
- Programming proficiency in Python, R, and/or SQL — you dont need to be a software engineer, but you should be comfortable building things, not just running macros
- Hands-on experience with experience rating, exposure rating, and reinsurance pricing tools (e.g. Aon Altair, MetaRisk, or homegrown equivalents)
- Familiarity with modern data tools: version control (Git), cloud platforms, BI tools (Power BI, Tableau), or notebook environments (Jupyter)
The AI-Native Mindset
- You already use AI tools in your daily workflow — not because someone told you to, but because you cant imagine working without them
- Curiosity about how LLMs, agentic frameworks, and automation can transform traditional reinsurance workflows
- Willingness to prototype, experiment, and ship — not just theorize
The Human Stuff
- Hunger, conscientiousness, and a genuine desire to learn and grow into a leader
- Comfort operating in ambiguity — this is a division being built, not a mature book with documented SOPs
- Ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts to non-actuarial stakeholders — underwriters, cedents, brokers, leadership
- The judgment and presence to own the actuarial voice in the room
What You Wont Find in Most Reinsurance Actuary Postings
- A division to build. SUI is a casualty fac program today with ambitions across property fac, broker facilities, and casualty treaty. Youre not maintaining a book — youre growing one, with the actuarial canvas to paint on.
- A seat at the table. This is a leadership-team role reporting directly to the Chief Actuary. No layers of middle management. Your work and your judgment shape strategy.
- AI-first investment. We dont just talk about AI — we invest in tokens, tools, and time. Youll have the resources to actually build with AI, not just attend webinars about it.
- Focus with a wide horizon. A dedicated remit on reinsurance, inside the broader actuarial strategy — deep enough to own, broad enough to never get stale.
- Exam support. Well support your credential journey.
- A real path to leadership. Whether you step in as the lead or grow into it, this role is the actuarial home of the reinsurance division.
- Well have fun. Seriously. Were building something new and doing it with people who actually enjoy the work.
You Might Be a Great Fit If...
- Youve priced treaty or facultative reinsurance — and can explain a loss pick to an underwriter and a broker in the same breath
- Youve built an experience- or exposure-rating tool in Python or R — not just run someone elses template
- Youve used Git for version control on an actuarial project (or at least wished your team did)
- Youve used an LLM to solve a real work problem — submission triage, data extraction, report drafting — and it changed how you think about your job
- Youve looked at a legacy spreadsheet pricing process and thought “I could rebuild this properly”
- You read actuarial papers AND machine learning papers — and see the connections
- You want to build a division, not just join one
If even one of these resonate, we want to talk to you.
Experience Range
Were flexible here — the right person matters more than the exact resume. Wed love someone in the 5–10 year range with reinsurance pricing depth who can step straight into the lead seat. But were equally open to an exceptional earlier-career actuary — strong technically, hungry, and ready — who grows into the lead. Tell us where you are and well build the role around the right person.
