Overview

Are you a hands-on Data Architect who thrives in an AI-first world – designing modern data platforms, leveraging AI-driven development, and shaping how organizations turn data into intelligent action? Do you combine strong data engineering foundations with a software engineering mindset, and enjoy building, not just designing? 

Here at Nortal, you will play a key role in shaping and advancing our data expertise and designing solutions for our clients in Europe. You will work alongside top professionals in data and AI development in Finland, collaborating with global data and software teams to design impactful solutions that drive business value.

What youll do

• Design and implement AI-enabled data architectures and solutions on modern lakehouse platforms (Microsoft Fabric and Azure Databricks)
• Apply AI-assisted and agent-driven design and development approaches to accelerate data platform and data product delivery
• Combine data engineering, software engineering and DevOps practices (IaC, CI/CD, testing, versioning, modular design)
• Define and enforce data strategy, governance, standards and architectural guidelines
• Work closely with technical and business teams to ensure alignment
• Nurture a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing
• Support pre-sales and solution design, contributing to customer engagements and proposals.

What makes you a great fit

• Experience in designing data architecture as part of enterprise architecture and data strategy
• Familiarity with data mesh paradigm and principles
• Knowledge of various data architectures, including data lakes, data warehouses, and lakehouses
• Experience with cloud and on-premise data solutions using Microsoft technologies, including strong hands-on work with Microsoft Fabric (preferred) or Databricks lakehouse platforms
• Hands-on experience and/or strong understanding of working with agentic AI development and software delivery methodologies, e.g. agentic swarm coding and spec-driven development.
• Experience applying software engineering practices (e.g. version control, CI/CD, testing) in data environments
• Experience on hands-on software engineering & general software architecture design is a big plus
• Pre-GenAI proficiency in Python and SQL
• Fluent in both Finnish and English

Nortal’s offices are located in Helsinki, Turku, Oulu, Uusikaupunki, and Jyväskylä. This position can be worked from any of the previous, but we are pretty flexible with remote work as well.
