Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Security Administrator

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Security Administrator based in United States.

This senior-level role is responsible for securing digital communications, authentication, encryption, and data exchange through robust PKI infrastructure.
You will oversee certificate operations, troubleshoot complex certificate issues, and support mission-critical applications and services.
The position combines hands-on technical administration with strategic guidance, stakeholder support, and team leadership.
You will work across PKI, identity, infrastructure, networking, automation, and security technologies in an enterprise environment.
A key focus will be improving certificate lifecycle management and advancing automation through platforms such as Venafi and emerging AI capabilities.
You will collaborate with customers, developers, system administrators, and project teams to solve complex security and infrastructure challenges.

Accountabilities

    • Perform certificate operations, customer support, reporting, documentation, and ongoing certificate lifecycle management activities.

    • Supervise PKI team activities and provide strategic, technical, and operational guidance for complex and mission-critical programs.

    • Develop requirements and technical recommendations for PKI projects, infrastructure improvements, optimization initiatives, and maintenance efforts.

    • Provide guidance and training to key stakeholders on PKI lifecycle processes, procedures, certificate management, and security practices.

    • Support certificate automation initiatives using Venafi and related technologies, while exploring opportunities to incorporate AI into automation workflows.

    • Provide customer and technical support for applications and services that depend on digital certificates.

    • Troubleshoot certificate, authentication, encryption, and PKI infrastructure issues and recommend effective resolutions.

    • Work with IT customers, developers, system administrators, and project teams to analyze requirements and resolve complex technical challenges.

    • Support PKI infrastructure involving certificate authorities, enrollment services, policy services, HSMs, Active Directory, and related technologies.

    • Contribute to process improvements, automation, documentation, and operational best practices across the PKI environment.

    • Requirements

      • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience with 9+ years of relevant experience.

      • Strong understanding of Public Key Infrastructure, certificate lifecycle management, REST API integration, SCEP, and Microsoft AD Auto-Enrollment.

      • Hands-on experience with certificate management technologies, preferably Venafi, Microsoft Certificate Authority, and Hardware Security Modules (HSMs).

      • Experience troubleshooting digital certificate issues with an interest in advancing automation and AI-enabled solutions.

      • Understanding of technologies such as VCERT, Portable Git, Ansible, and Visual Studio Code.

      • Working knowledge of PowerShell scripting.

      • Infrastructure administration experience across areas such as systems administration, server administration, networking, Active Directory/LDAP, Unix/Linux, virtualization, or access control.

      • Ability to interpret and work with technologies supporting TLS/SSL encryption, including platforms such as F5, NetScaler, IIS, Apache, WebLogic, or WebSphere.

      • Experience with Certificate Enrollment Web Services, Policy Web Services, and Active Directory Certificate Services (ADCS) monitoring.

      • Experience configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows Server and Unix/Linux environments.

      • Familiarity with or comparable change, incident, and problem-management platforms.

      • Experience with server virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.

      • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

      • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and problem-solving capabilities.

      • Ability to provide technical leadership, mentor team members, and communicate recommendations clearly to project and program stakeholders.

      • U.S. citizenship is required due to applicable federal government, client, and contractual requirements.
