Technical Recruiter

Hybrid in London, United Kingdom

We’re looking for a Technical Recruiter.

Youll hire exceptional people and help build high-performing engineering, data science, and product teams – shaping hiring decisions with data and collaborating on our tech hiring strategy.

The company

Small businesses move fast. Opportunities often don’t wait, and cash flow pressures can appear overnight. To keep going, and growing, SMEs need finance that’s as flexible and responsive as they are.

Thats why we built iwoca. Our smart technology, data science and five-star customer service ensures business owners can act with the speed, confidence and control they need, exactly when its needed.

We’ve already cleared the way for 100,000 businesses with more than £4 billion in funding. Our passionate team is driven to help even more SMEs succeed, through access to better finance and other services that make running a business easier. Our ultimate mission is to support one million SMEs in their defining moments, creating lasting impact for the communities and economies they drive.

The team

The Tech Talent team hires for iwocas Tech, Analytics, and Product (TAP) functions – we own the briefs, the sourcing, the assessment, and the standards. Were a team of three, part of a broader talent team of eight, hiring across TAP (around 200 people and growing). Heads of Engineering, Data, and Product rely on us to shape hiring direction, and our work directly impacts the teams who build our products, systems, and customer experience.

We focus on high-calibre talent – people who raise the bar and improve the teams they join. Data and structure keep our hiring objective and measured, and we share knowledge and challenge each others thinking to raise standards.

We use Ashby as our ATS, LinkedIn Recruiter and Welcome to the Jungle for sourcing, and several tech-specific job boards for advertising, with Claude as our main AI tool.

The role

As a Technical Recruiter, youll focus on engineering, data science, and product roles through discovery, calibration, and execution. Youll solve hiring problems from first principles, with reasoning that is defensible.

  • Discovery and judgement. Youll shape role briefs with hiring managers, weighing trade-offs between seniority, scope, skill mix, and what the market will realistically supply. Youll change the process when it doesnt match the role.

  • Sourcing and candidate standards. Youll run outbound sourcing across software engineering, data science, strategy and product, mapping the market and designing outreach that candidates actually reply to. Youll calibrate what good looks like in panel debriefs, and tune the candidate experience to the role.

  • Scale and measurement. Youll run a feedback loop on your own work – scoring recommendations against frameworks, tracking passthrough rates, and calibrating against downstream interviewer feedback. Each cycle sharpens your judgement. Youll build the workflows and prompts that scale you and the team, and keep Ashby accurate so colleagues can self-serve pipeline data.

  • Experimentation and improvement. Youll experiment with hiring methods – AI tools, outreach formats, job description iterations – and judge whats worth adopting. Youll balance this with delivering your roles.

  • Autonomy and growth. Youll run your roles end-to-end from day one, with the expectation of growing into a domain expert – defining what good looks like, developing hiring strategy, and advising stakeholders on high-impact decisions.

The requirements

Essential:

  • Technical hiring. Youve recruited software engineers, and you can assess engineering CVs on specialism, seniority, credibility, and relevance.

  • Sourcing. You’ve run outbound sourcing campaigns. You build market maps, test outreach approaches, and reach candidates who wouldnt apply directly.

  • Judgement. You prioritise where you spend your time – which candidates, which roles, which methods. You adjust to new evidence, and you can explain your reasoning clearly.

  • Make stuff happen. You take initiative, keep it moving, and have a bias for action.

  • Communication. You write and speak clearly, directly, and concisely. You explain complex trade-offs in plain terms.

  • Technical fluency. You treat tools and systems as figure-out-able, and pick up new tech fast. You use AI and judge its output critically.

Bonus:

  • Analytical mindset. You think systematically and methodically. You gather data, seek feedback, and adapt to new evidence.

  • Data science hiring. Youve hired data scientists working on applied machine learning; probabilistic models for decision-making.

  • Product or strategy hiring. Youve hired for product or strategy roles in tech companies where analytical thinking is central.

  • Privacy standards. You understand candidate data standards – GDPR, data minimisation, handling personal data. You treat candidate information as sensitive by default.

The salary

We expect to pay from £50,000 to £70,000 for this role. But, we’re open-minded, so definitely include your salary goals with your application. We routinely benchmark salaries against market rates, and run quarterly performance and salary reviews.

The culture

At iwoca, the best idea wins. We model our culture on independent thinking, challenging untested logic, and evidence-based decisions. We prioritise learning and growth, and give people the autonomy to develop in the direction that makes them most effective.

Were a tech company and believe in the power of AI to help us work faster and better. We provide the infrastructure where every iwocan always has access to the best models and where those models have access to all of our data. We will help our people to learn how to use and grow with the new tools available to them.

The offices

We put a lot of effort into making iwoca a great place to work:

  • Offices in London, Leeds, Berlin, and Frankfurt with plenty of drinks and snacks.

  • Events and community-led groups, including running groups, padel, and monthly ping-pong and pool competitions.

The benefits

  • Flexible working hours.

  • Medical insurance from Vitality, including discounted gym membership.

  • A private GP service (separate from Vitality) for you, your partner, and your dependents.

  • 25 days’ holiday per year, an extra day off for your birthday, the option to buy or sell an additional five days of annual leave, and unlimited unpaid leave.

  • A one-month, fully paid sabbatical after four years.

  • Instant access to external counselling and therapy sessions for team members that need emotional or mental health support.

  • 3% Pension contributions on total earnings.

  • An employee equity incentive scheme.

  • Generous parental leave and a nursery tax benefit scheme to help you save money.

  • Electric car scheme and cycle to work scheme.

  • Two company retreats a year: we’ve been to France, Italy, Spain, and further afield.

And to make sure we all keep learning, we offer:

  • A learning and development budget for everyone.

  • Company-wide talks with internal and external speakers.

  • Access to learning platforms like Treehouse.
