Position Overview:
The Director of Business Intelligence, Market Analysis and Strategic Initiatives turns complex market, competitive, customer, financial, and internal information into clear recommendations for Hidden Level. Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, this role helps determine where the company competes, how it wins, and which strategic opportunities warrant investment.
This hands-on leader will analyze new markets, support acquisition and investment opportunities, contribute to strategic planning, and lead select cross-functional initiatives from problem definition through implementation planning. The Director will partner closely with leaders across Corporate Development, Internal Operations, Product, Engineering, Growth, Finance, Legal, and Manufacturing.
Location: Surrounding Washington, D.C. area – This is a hybrid role with regular in-person collaboration expected.
Responsibilities:
- Build a disciplined market and competitive intelligence capability that provides leadership with timely insights into customers, competitors, partners, technology trends, government priorities, and regulatory developments.
- Lead market sizing, segmentation, competitive analysis, business-case development, and market-entry planning for potential defense, commercial, international, and adjacent opportunities.
- Support Corporate Development in evaluating acquisitions, investments, partnerships, and other inorganic growth opportunities, including diligence, strategic rationale, risk analysis, synergy assessment, and valuation inputs.
- Lead or support high-priority strategic initiatives sponsored by the Chief Strategy Officer, CEO, and Executive Leadership Team.
- Translate complex or ambiguous business questions into structured workplans, decision criteria, recommendations, implementation plans, and measurable outcomes.
- Support strategic planning, scenario development, portfolio assessment, resource allocation, and investment decisions.
- Partner with the Director of Internal Operations on cross-functional initiatives involving market entry, international growth, organizational readiness, and execution.
- Develop concise, decision-oriented materials and recommendations for senior executives and, when needed, the Board.
- Up to 20% travel
What We’re Looking For:
- Ability to understand complex technologies and translate technical capabilities into market, customer, and strategic implications.
- Exceptional executive communication skills and the ability to clearly present recommendations, risks, assumptions, and trade-offs.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of progressively responsible experience in corporate strategy, strategic operations, market intelligence, corporate development, management consulting, strategic finance, defense, technology, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to structure ambiguous problems, identify critical questions, and develop evidence-based recommendations under time pressure.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative skills, including market sizing, competitive analysis, financial modeling, scenario planning, and business-case development.
- Experience evaluating new markets, products, partnerships, investments, or acquisition opportunities; transaction diligence or corporate development experience is preferred.
- Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives through influence, collaboration, and sound judgment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in defense technology, aerospace, sensing, autonomy, AI, critical infrastructure, or an adjacent industry is preferred.
- U.S. Government security clearance required; TS/SCI preferred.
Compensation and Benefits: Hidden Level offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid parental leave, flexible time off, 401(k) with employer contributions, life insurance, disability insurance, and potential stock options.
Salary Range: The salary range for this position is estimated at $160,000 to $200,000 annually. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Hidden Level considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidates work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
