SEO Freelancer / Consultant

Job Description

Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced SEO Specialist to join us on a freelance consultant basis. This is not an entry-level role, we need an expert who understands SEO deeply, can identify opportunities quickly, and execute strategies that drive real business outcomes for us and our clients.

You will work across multiple client accounts, helping improve organic visibility, traffic quality, and ultimately reaching goals or increasing revenue.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct technical SEO audits and implement fixes (e.g. site structure, indexing, crawlability, Core Web Vitals)

• Develop and execute on-page SEO strategies and action plans (keyword targeting, internal linking, content optimisation)

• Collaborate and guide content strategies with our content team to ensure alignment with search intent and business goals

• Perform keyword research and mapping with a focus on commercial and high-intent opportunities

• Identify and execute link-building and digital PR strategies

• Monitor performance via GA4, Google Search Console, and SEO tools

• Understanding and practical experience implementing GEO/AEO strategies and tactics to increase AI visibility

• Provide clear reporting and actionable insights (not just data)

• Collaborate with our inbound marketing team to align on full-funnel growth

• Working alongside content and web teams to execute SEO activities

Qualifications

Requirement

• Proven experience in SEO with real case studies or results

• Strong understanding of technical SEO

• Working SEO experience within the WordPress ecosystem

• Ability to translate SEO into revenue/lead impact, not just rankings (i.e. not vanity metrics)

• Proficiency with tools like Semrush, Screaming Frog, Moz, GA4, GSC, Rank Math

• Strong communication and able to meet deadlines

• Experience working with agencies or multiple clients

• Understanding of conversion rate optimisation (CRO)

Nice to Have

• Basic knowledge of HTML / site structure

• Experience with international SEO

Engagement Details

• Freelance / contract-based

• Primarily remote, in-office once every 2 weeks for alignment (office based in Bryanston, Johannesburg)

• Ongoing work/perm position available based on performance
