The Role

 

Are you an experienced life insurance underwriter with a sharp eye for detail, deep understanding of risk assessment, and a passion for putting the customer first? Are you interested in applying your underwriting knowledge in new ways? We are seeking a dynamic and results oriented Life Insurance Senior Underwriter to join the research and development portion of our fast-growing underwriting team.

 

This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with experience both in and outside of line underwriting looking to continue building their career. As a Senior Underwriter focusing on research and development, you will:

 

• Aid in updating of underwriting guidelines and automated rules

• • Help identify key areas for refinement and prioritize updates based on overall impact

• • Research, draft and assist in the rollout of new underwriting guidelines

• • Conduct market studies to provide insight on industry norms

• Serve as a subject matter expert on cross functional projects

• • Partner with the actuarial and data analytics team to evaluate business results data

• • Provide underwriting guidance to legal, risk and compliance teams as needed

• Participate in audits

• • Review audit cases to ensure adherence to underwriting expectations

• • Conduct post issue studies of automated cases to confirm adherence to mortality expectations

• • Perform analysis of auditing findings to identify consistency gaps or areas of unintentional slippage and suggest ways to mitigate such findings

• Assist with mentoring junior underwriters

• • Share in a collaborative team spirit where everyone pitches in to provide support and training to more junior underwriters

• • Aid in coaching of junior underwriters including in providing opportunities to explore areas outside of line underwriting

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

 

Bringing with you a Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field and 5+ years of progressive growth in life insurance underwriting, you possess a robust skill set in risk assessment. Your professional path has been defined by a commitment to cultivating deep expertise in case evaluation with an underwriting authority limit of $3,000,000 or higher, as well as expanding to roles outside of line underwriting. Experience with third party evidence providers, automated underwriting or industry designations are a plus.

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.

The base salary range for this position is $89,000-$180,000 per year.

Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.

Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
