Accounting Manager - Fully Remote

Most accounting managers spend years going deep on one companys books. This role goes wider.

Youll own the close for a portfolio of funded, high-growth startups — a Shopify brand with real inventory and landed costs one day, and a SaaS company with deferred revenue and equity ownership the next. Youll be on the client calls. Youll manage a team of offshore accountants who handle the transactional work so you can focus on review, judgment, and the conversations with the controller and founders.

What makes this seat different

• Portfolio variety  Tech, consumer products, retail, manufacturing, and services clients. Inventory and cost accounting, revenue recognition, lease accounting, and equity accounting — often in the same month.
• You manage a team  Youll directly lead our offshore accounting team: assigning work, reviewing output, and raising their ceiling. Real management experience, not a dotted line.
• A modern stack, not a legacy ERP  Puzzle, Ramp, Rho, Rippling, Carta, and Numeral are good examples. Youll leave here fluent in the tooling startups actually run on.
• A path to Controller  Youll work side by side with our Controllers on every engagement. We promote from within, so when you’re ready you’d get considered for a controller position.
• Genuine transparency  Drafts, working files, and client communications are visible across the team. Nobody works in a silo, and nobody gets blindsided in a client meeting. It means your work gets reviewed — and it means you learn from everyone elses.

What youll own

• Generate timely, accurate monthly financial statements
• Review and guide the offshore teams work product
• Reconciliations, accruals, and deferred journal entries
• Update financial models and cash forecasts with actuals
• Manage client budgets

• Engage in recurring client calls and respond to founder requests directly
• Translate the numbers into something a non-finance founder can act on
• Partner with our Controllers on strategic and advisory work

• AR — invoicing and collections
• AP — bill processing and vendor setup
• Payroll and benefit clearing account reconciliations, including 401(k) and medical
• Insurance audits and renewals
• Inventory and landed costs
• Sales tax management and compliance

• Work with external partners on federal and state income tax returns (C Corp, S Corp, LLC)
• Annual state filings and franchise taxes
• Local business registrations, sales and use tax, R&D tax credits, W-9s and 1099s

What youll bring

• 7+ years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years managing or reviewing the work of other accountants
• Experience serving multiple clients or entities at once; public accounting, outsourced accounting, or a multi-entity corporate role
• Strong working knowledge of US GAAP; financial statement presentation, revenue recognition, deferred revenue, prepaid and accrued expenses, fixed assets
• Hands-on ownership of a full-cycle monthly close
• Fluency in QuickBooks Online or Xero
• Strong Google Sheets skills — pivot tables, SUMIFS, model maintenance
• Bachelors degree, accounting or finance concentration preferred
• Comfortable leading a client call without a Controller in the room

• CPA, or CPA-eligible and pursuing it
• Big 4 or national public accounting background
• Startup or VC-backed client experience
• Inventory, manufacturing, or cost accounting exposure
• Equity accounting exposure
