Information Technology Specialist
Location: Remote, UNAVAILABLE, US
Employment Type: FULL_TIME
Job Summary
As an Information Technology Specialist supporting the National Training and Support Program (NTSP) Quality and Data Informatics team, you will administer, develop, and sustain IT systems and services that drive the acquisition, storage, management, and movement of critical program data across the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Working within a federal healthcare contracting environment, you will evaluate and implement IT solutions—including web-based designs, data governance frameworks, and operational systems—that deliver timely, accurate, and relevant information to VA stakeholders nationwide. The ideal candidate is a self-driven IT professional who thrives in complex, data-intensive environments and brings a collaborative mindset to cross-functional federal teams. You are comfortable balancing technical execution with stakeholder communication and are eager to apply modern automation and low-code/no-code tools to solve real-world government program challenges.
Primary Responsibilities
Administer, develop, and maintain IT systems and services supporting the acquisition, storage, management, and movement of VA program data across organizational boundaries. Evaluate current IT environments and recommend scalable solutions to compile, control, and disseminate accurate and timely data to VA and its stakeholders, including web-based portal designs and operational system enhancements. Design, implement, and enforce data governance policies and standards to ensure data integrity, quality, and compliance with VA and federal data management requirements. Develop and maintain automated workflows and applications using Microsoft Power Automate, PowerApps, and related tools to streamline data processes and reduce manual burden across program operations. Provide technical support and troubleshooting for operational IT systems, coordinating with VA program staff and stakeholders to resolve issues and minimize disruption to data-driven workflows. Produce technical documentation, data reports, and briefing materials to communicate system status, data quality findings, and IT solution recommendations to VA leadership and project stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in information technology, data management, or systems administration (or 7 years of relevant experience in lieu of a BA/BS degree). BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field required; 3 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for the degree requirement. Prior experience supporting federal agency clients or government programs, with a strong preference for candidates with VA, DoD, or federal healthcare IT environment exposure. Ability to obtain and maintain a VA Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential and meet all VA background investigation and system access requirements prior to starting work. Must be authorized to work in the United States; this position does not offer visa sponsorship. Demonstrated proficiency in IT systems administration, data management principles, and the ability to translate complex technical requirements into actionable solutions for non-technical program stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Automate and PowerApps to design and deploy low-code automation solutions in a federal or healthcare setting. • Familiarity with VA data systems, VAs Office of Information and Technology (OIT) standards, or federal data governance frameworks such as the Federal Data Strategy. • Experience with web-based application design or development, including SharePoint Online or similar platforms used for data dissemination and stakeholder collaboration. • Knowledge of healthcare data standards, terminology, or interoperability frameworks (e.g., HL7, FHIR) relevant to VA clinical and administrative programs. • Experience producing data quality reports, dashboards, or informatics products using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or SQL-based reporting environments.
