Role overview
Algoworks is seeking a world-class, experienced and highly hands-on Atlassian Solution Architect to lead the architecture, governance, optimization and evolution of our Atlassian ecosystem, including Jira, Jira Service Management, Tempo and related capabilities.
This role is responsible for ensuring the Atlassian platform operates as a scalable enterprise system rather than a collection of individual projects, workflows and configurations. The architect will combine deep Atlassian expertise with strong systems thinking and business understanding to design simple, secure, maintainable solutions that improve delivery, governance, productivity and data quality.
The successful candidate must be proactive and naturally curious about platform health. This person should continuously inspect the environment, identify control gaps, configuration sprawl, technical debt, security risks, inefficient workflows and data-quality issues and independently drive scalable remediation rather than waiting for problems to be assigned.
The architect will set the technical direction, platform standards and solution patterns within which administrators and business teams operate, while remaining hands-on enough to prototype, troubleshoot and validate complex solutions personally.
Key responsibilities:
1.Atlassian architecture and strategy
- Define and continuously evolve the enterprise architecture and roadmap for Jira, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Tempo and related Atlassian capabilities.
- Design scalable standards for projects, workflows, issue types, schemes, fields, screens, permissions, roles, automation, applications and integrations.
- Establish reusable configuration patterns that reduce unnecessary customization, simplify administration and prevent technical debt.
- Evaluate new Atlassian capabilities and recommend adoption based on business value, scalability, security, maintainability and cost.
2.Platform governance, health and continuous optimization
- Continuously assess the Atlassian environment for architectural weaknesses, configuration sprawl, redundant fields and workflows, excessive permissions, control gaps and performance risks.
- Identify root causes behind recurring platform issues and replace workarounds or manual fixes with sustainable system-level solutions.
- Establish governance for access, configuration changes, applications, automation and platform standards, with appropriate testing, deployment and rollback controls.
- Maintain clear architecture documentation, configuration standards and technical decision records so the platform remains governable as the organization scales.
3.Business process and solution design
- Partner with Delivery, PMO, Finance, HR, Sales, IT and leadership to understand business processes and translate them into effective Atlassian solutions.
- Analyze the underlying business problem before recommending configuration, automation, customization or integration and challenge approaches that create unnecessary complexity.
- Design solutions that balance user experience, governance, reporting, automation and long-term maintainability.
- Measure the effectiveness of major platform changes through clear improvements in productivity, control, data quality, visibility or business outcomes.
4.Automation, AI and extensibility
- Proactively identify repetitive, manual or error-prone processes that can be automated within or around the Atlassian ecosystem.
- Design scalable Jira and Tempo automation with appropriate validation, exception handling, monitoring and awareness of platform limits.
- Use APIs, scripting, cloud services or custom extensions when native capabilities are insufficient, while avoiding unnecessary custom development.
- Evaluate and implement AI-enabled capabilities that improve project management, reporting, support, knowledge management and administrative productivity.
5.Enterprise integration, data and reporting
- Architect reliable integrations between Atlassian and enterprise platforms such as CRM, ERP, HCM, identity, Microsoft/Azure and business intelligence systems.
- Define system-of-record responsibilities, data models, mappings, APIs, authentication, synchronization rules, reconciliation and error-handling controls.
- Ensure Jira and Tempo are structured to produce accurate, consistent and decision-ready data without excessive manual transformation.
- Partner with analytics teams to enable automated operational and executive reporting and resolve data-quality issues at their source.
6.Technical leadership and platform enablement
- Provide architectural direction and technical guidance to Jira Administrators and other teams working within the Atlassian ecosystem.
- Review significant changes for architectural impact, scalability, security and alignment with enterprise standards.
- Lead solution design, technical assessments, proofs of concept and major platform enhancements from concept through implementation.
- Develop team capability so recurring administration can be executed independently within clear architectural and governance standards.
Required skills and qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience across Atlassian platforms, enterprise applications or solution architecture, with significant hands-on Jira experience.
- Deep expertise in Jira Cloud, Jira Service Management, Confluence and the broader Atlassian ecosystem.
- Strong experience with Tempo and enterprise time, resource, capacity or delivery-management use cases.
- Expert understanding of Jira workflows, schemes, issue types, custom fields, screens, roles, permissions, automation and application architecture.
- Proven experience designing and simplifying enterprise-scale Atlassian environments.
- Strong experience with REST APIs, webhooks, authentication, scripting and enterprise integration patterns.
- Experience integrating Atlassian with CRM, ERP, HCM, identity, cloud and analytics platforms.
- Strong understanding of enterprise security, access governance, SSO, user provisioning and auditability.
- Proven ability to proactively identify architectural weaknesses and independently design scalable remediation.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across systems, data, integrations and business processes.
- Ability to translate complex business requirements into simple, maintainable technical solutions and communicate clearly with engineers and senior business stakeholders.
Must have skills:
- Jira Cloud, Jira Service Management, Confluence and Tempo – enterprise architecture and administration.
- Strong expertise in Jira workflows, schemes, permissions, custom fields, automation and governance.
- Hands-on experience with REST APIs, webhooks, scripting and enterprise integrations.
- Strong Atlassian solution architecture, security, scalability and technical-debt management experience.
Good to have skills:
- Experience with Atlassian integrations with Azure, CRM, ERP, HCM and BI platforms.
- Knowledge of SSO, identity management, access governance and audit controls.
- Experience with AI-enabled automation and Atlassian extensibility.
Desired attributes:
- Deeply curious about how systems work, where they fail and how they can be improved.
- Proactively identifies problems instead of waiting for tickets, incidents or instructions.
- Thinks in enterprise architecture rather than isolated Jira configurations.
- Strong instinct for simplifying complexity and eliminating technical debt.
- Hands-on enough to prototype, troubleshoot and validate solutions personally.
- Comfortable challenging existing approaches and proposing better alternatives.
- Makes decisions based on scalability, maintainability, security and measurable business value.
- Rigorous, analytical and detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
- AI-savvy and continuously explores better ways to automate work.
- Strong communicator and collaborative partner across technical and business teams.
- Fun, engaging personality and a team player.
