This role is pivotal in ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability across customer-facing platforms and internal systems.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Serve as the technical engineer for database operations, focusing on MariaDB and PostgreSQL environments</li><li>Diagnose and resolve complex production issues related to database performance, replication, and availability</li><li>Collaborate with product and engineering teams to design scalable data architectures and service integrations</li><li>Automate routine database maintenance tasks and contribute to infrastructure-as-code initiatives</li><li>Implement monitoring, alerting, and backup strategies aligned with SLAs and compliance requirements</li><li>Provide guidance on schema design, query optimization, and data lifecycle management</li><li>Mentor junior engineers and contribute to service reliability best practices</li></ul><h3>Qualifications</h3>Required Qualifications<ul><li>Extensive hands-on experience with MariaDB and PostgreSQL in production environments</li><li>Strong understanding of database internals, indexing strategies, replication, and failover mechanisms</li><li>Proficiency in SQL performance tuning and query optimization</li><li>Experience with backup/restore strategies, disaster recovery planning, and data migration</li><li>Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, pg_stat_statements)</li><li>Fluent in German and English (written and verbal)</li><li>Ability to travel to our customer site in Germany.</li><li>Ability to be on-call if required.</li><li>Due to the nature of the role and regulatory requirements for this role, only candidates who are German or EU citizens can be considered.</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications<ul><li>Experience with cloud-hosted database services (e.g., Amazon RDS, Google Cloud SQL)</li><li>Knowledge of containerized database deployments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)</li><li>Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar for automation and tooling</li><li>Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices related to database changes</li></ul><h3>Additional Information</h3>Work PersonasWe approach our distributed world of work with flexibility and trust.
