One team specializes in the macOS and Windows environments that power CI/CD for our Mobile and Desktop applications, managing a complex fleet on AWS with bespoke tooling. The other team manages our on-premise GitHub Enterprise server and the underlying Linux infrastructure for Buildkite and GitHub Actions CI worker fleet. If you are passionate about building leveraged systems, mentoring talented engineers, and driving a technical vision that impacts an entire engineering organization, we’d love to talk to you.<h2>What you will be doing:</h2><ul><li>Define and drive a unified technical vision and long-term strategy for both Source Control Management (SCM) and CI/CD infrastructure across all of Slack.</li><li>Architect and lead the implementation of scalable, observable, and resilient infrastructure across a hybrid environment of public cloud (AWS) using Infrastructure as Code principles (Terraform, Chef, Ansible) and on-premise systems.</li><li>Harmonize the technology and processes used across our Linux, macOS, and Windows CI fleets, driving towards shared standards, tooling, and observability (KPIs).</li><li>Pioneer the integration of AI/ML technologies into our CI/CD pipelines to enhance developer productivity, automate complex workflows, and create self-driving build and deployment systems.</li><li>Act as a technical leader and mentor for engineers across multiple teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.</li><li>Lead complex, cross-functional projects from conception to completion, ensuring alignment with company-wide objectives and collaborating with stakeholders across the organization.</li><li>Improve and maintain existing services, balancing forward-looking strategic work with the operational excellence (KTLO) required to keep our developers productive.</li><li>Participate in our on-call rotation to ensure the reliability and availability of our critical developer-facing systems.</li></ul><h2>What you should have:</h2><ul><li>Extensive experience (10+ years for Staff) in a DevOps, Infrastructure, or Site Reliability Engineering role, with a proven track record of architecting and managing large-scale, mission-critical systems across diverse operating systems (Linux, macOS, Windows).</li><li>Deep expertise in cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS, and a strong command of Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform, Chef, or Ansible.</li><li>Experience managing and scaling Source Control Management systems, like GitHub Enterprise, is highly desirable.</li><li>Solid proficiency in scripting and programming languages such as Go, Python, or Bash.</li><li>Explore and implement tools and technologies like Kubernetes to provision and configure scalable build frameworks in public clouds.</li><li>Hands-on experience with modern CI/CD systems (e.g., Buildkite, GitHub Actions, CircleCI) and a passion for improving developer workflows and productivity.</li><li>A forward-thinking mindset with a keen interest in exploring and applying AI/ML to developer tooling and infrastructure challenges.</li><li>Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to mentor other engineers, drive consensus across teams, and articulate a clear technical vision to both technical and non-technical audiences.</li><li>A pragmatic approach to problem-solving, thriving in ambiguity and demonstrating a bias for action in a fast-paced environment.
