Edge Engineer - Field Engineering

Employment Type: Full-Time

Who We Are

Our mission is to make the world programmable. Sight is one of the key ways we understand the world, and soon this will be true for the software we use, too.

At Roboflow, we’re building the tools, community, and resources needed to make the world programmable with artificial intelligence. Roboflow simplifies building and using computer vision models. Today, over 250,000 developers, including those from half the Fortune 100, use Roboflow’s machine learning open source and hosted tools. That includes counting cells to accelerate cancer research, improving construction site safety, digitizing floor plans, preserving coral reef populations, guiding drone flight, and much more.

Our team is small relative to our impact, and we believe our user success is our success (not the inverse). A team member summarized: “Roboflow is a company full of giant brains and tiny egos.” We find software has a multiplier effect on all roles (not only product and engineering), so Roboflow employs developers across the company in design, sales, customer support, marketing, and beyond.

We’re supported by great customers and investors, having raised over 23 million from Y Combinator, Craft Ventures, Sam Altman, Lachy Groom, amongst other leading software investors.

Who You Are

Primarily, you like to make great things with passionate colleagues. You are someone that likes to own outcomes, not only inputs. You’re motivated by having responsibility and accountability. You’re eager to ‘do the work,’ big and small.

You’re curious and learning about new technologies, perhaps an early tinkerer with AI products. You show more than you tell.

You’re motivated by the question, “How can I improve this?” and have a track record of doing so, even in ways adjacent to your role. Much of our current team is made up of former founders and thrive in the level of autonomy at Roboflow. Maybe you had a side hustle in high school or college.

Many Roboflowers have used our tools before joining. One of the best ways to stand out amongst other applicants is to write about something you have built with Roboflow or contribute to one of our open source projects.

We’re hiring Edge Engineers to partner closely with our solution architect and implementation teams to drive new customer wins. You’ll have an immense impact on shaping the future of not only this role, but our company.

What You’ll Do

As an Edge Engineer on Roboflow’s Field Engineering team, you’ll play a critical role in deploying and supporting our computer vision hardware in industrial and real-world environments. From shipping and assembling edge devices to managing full-scale rollouts at customer sites, your work ensures our systems perform reliably in the field.

This is a hands-on, highly technical role where you will work across hardware, networking, and system configuration domains. You’ll be a trusted partner to both internal teams and customer stakeholders, ensuring that Roboflow’s edge solutions - including Jetson-based boxes, industrial cameras, and networking gear - are installed and operating at the highest standard.

If you enjoy solving hardware challenges, optimizing field workflows, and traveling to see your impact firsthand, this role is for you.

Role and Responsibilities

Hardware Management & Logistics

  • Assemble, configure, and test Roboflow edge devices for deployment (Jetson devices, servers, cameras, sensors, etc.)

  • Build relationships with hardware partners and systems integrators to streamline sourcing and coordinate field support.

  • Ship devices to customers with proper documentation and configuration pre-sets

  • Maintain inventory of hardware components, including cables, mounts, lenses, enclosures, and more

  • Maintain an active parts backlog and reorder critical components as needed

Field Deployments & Onsite Execution

  • Lead on-site device installations, hardware bring-up, and system validation

  • Perform physical mounting, sensor alignment, cabling, and PoE configuration

  • Ensure proper connectivity (RTSP, VPN, SSH) and integration with Roboflow’s software

  • Travel up to 75% to customer locations

System Configuration & Support

  • Support customers in field troubleshooting of cameras, inference pipelines, and data uploads

  • Manage network setup on Linux-based edge devices (interface binding, static IPs, DHCP config)

Process Improvement & Documentation

  • Contribute to internal tooling and processes that increase speed and consistency of deployments

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs, wiring diagrams, and setup guides

  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and support teams to share field feedback and drive product improvement

The Skillset You’ll Bring

  • Hands-on hardware experience: You’ve worked with embedded devices (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson), industrial cameras, or similar hardware in field deployments

  • Computer vision experience: Familiarity with Roboflow or similar computer vision inference pipelines

  • Self-starter: You operate with autonomy in the field and know when to escalate versus when to fix it yourself

  • Problem-solving mindset: You’re resourceful and calm when debugging issues on-site under time constraints

  • Excellent communicator: You write clean, helpful documentation and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams

  • Python and Bash scripting: Able to write scripts to automate routine tasks or customize device behavior

  • Linux and Networking Proficiency: Comfortable with system-level debugging, interface configuration, and tools like nmcli, ifconfig, systemd, and docker

Nice to Have

  • Experience with PoE cameras (e.g., Basler, Lucid Vision) or IP camera configuration

  • Familiarity with manufacturing plant safety protocols and basic electrical wiring

  • Experience building remote monitoring or telemetry solutions for edge devices
