The Citi Velocity Market Data team is seeking a highly experienced and technically astute Senior Java Engineer to join the Citi Velocity Technology Group. This hands-on leadership role involves driving the design, development, and evolution of enterprise-level UI and backend solutions, primarily utilizing a full Java/J2EE technology stack complemented by modern frontend frameworks like React JS.This role is for a Senior/Principal-level hands-on engineer who will provide technical leadership, architectural oversight, and guide the development of strategic Market Data &amp; Analytics platform for Citi Velocity group. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading key projects and components through the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), from conceptual analysis and architectural design to deployment and post-production support. Responsibilities include mentoring and coaching junior developers, ensuring adherence to cutting-edge best practices, conducting comprehensive code reviews, and championing technical excellence. The role demands deep expertise in both system and enterprise architecture to ensure seamless integration, scalability, and optimal functionality across diverse components. The candidate will collaborate extensively with a global team and liaise with Business Analysts, Enterprise Architects, Production Support, and Infrastructure teams.Responsibilities:<ul><li>Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex, high-performance, and scalable enterprise-level applications and microservices using Java.</li><li>Provide expert technical leadership and architectural guidance to development teams, ensuring solutions align with strategic goals, architectural principles, and Citi standards.</li><li>Mentor and coach junior and mid-level developers, fostering a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and continuous learning.</li><li>Drive architectural discussions and decisions, contributing significantly to the technology roadmap and strategic direction of the platform.</li><li>Oversee the entire SDLC for critical projects, from ideation and detailed design to robust implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support within an agile Scrum environment.</li><li>Champion best practices in code quality, security, performance optimization, and maintainability across the development lifecycle.</li><li>Conduct thorough code reviews, offering constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to established coding standards and design patterns.</li><li>Act as a subject matter expert for Java backend technologies, distributed systems, and modern frontend frameworks, particularly React JS.</li><li>Lead efforts in re-architecting existing components to satisfy new performance, scalability, and resilience requirements.</li><li>Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams including Business Analysts, Enterprise Architects, Production Support, and Infrastructure teams to deliver integrated and reliable solutions.</li><li>Provide level 3 (escalation) support for complex production issues, demonstrating strong problem-solving and debugging skills.</li><li>Drive compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, safeguarding Citigroups reputation, clients, and assets.</li></ul>Required Skills &amp; Qualifications:<ul><li>10+ years of progressive experience in application development, with a strong emphasis on Java backend engineering.</li><li>Deep expertise in Java SE/EE (8+) and advanced frameworks like Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and related ecosystem components.</li><li>Extensive experience in designing, developing, and deploying scalable microservices architectures within an enterprise environment.</li><li>Mastery of modern DevOps practices and tools, including advanced CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub, Jenkins, Harness, Tekton), artifact management (Artifactory), code quality (SonarQube), and scripting (Groovy, Maven).</li><li>Expertise in containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.</li><li>Advanced proficiency in relational databases (Oracle DB, SQL, PL/SQL) and advanced database design principles.</li><li>Proficient in handling complex data formats (XML/XSD/XSLT, JSON) and API design principles (RESTful APIs).</li><li>Strong understanding of security best practices, vulnerability assessment, and remediation in enterprise application development.</li><li>Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, capable of tackling highly complex technical and architectural challenges.</li><li>Outstanding communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of effective leadership, collaboration, and mentorship across global teams.</li><li>Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects under pressure, adapting to changing business needs and timelines.</li></ul>Preferred Skills and Experience:<ul><li>Expertise in distributed messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, JMS).</li><li>Extensive experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB).</li><li>Experience with event-driven architectures and stream processing.</li><li>Leadership experience in large-scale financial services technology projects.</li><li>Advanced knowledge of system infrastructure, network, and security concepts.</li><li>Working knowledge of consulting/project management techniques/methods.</li></ul>Education:<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in engineering (electronics) and/or computer science is preferred, or equivalent experience.</li></ul> This job description provides a high-level review of the types of work performed.
