About the team

Join our dynamic and skilled accounting team at Zillow, where innovation meets collaboration in a lively, fast-paced real estate technology company. We work directly with teams throughout the Finance organization (including Financial Reporting, FP&A, and Tax) as well as Sales Operations, Engineering, Corporate Applications and external partners to support Zillow’s evolving product lines.

About the role

Zillow is  looking for a Senior Accounting Analyst to join the Accounting projects team. Reporting to the Manager, Revenue Accounting, you will be a key contributor to new and emerging accounting initiatives at Zillow. This is not a traditional G/L or monthly close focused role. Instead, you’ll work on special projects across teams to design and operationalize accounting processes for new products and evolving business initiatives to help scale our finance function for the future.

You’ll collaborate directly with teams across Corporate Accounting, Revenue, Cash Operations, and Zillow’s Product and Engineering teams. You’ll also help design and implement tooling that makes complex accounting more efficient, accurate, and transparent.

This is a high-visibility role with room to grow. You’ll have opportunities to lead small projects and contribute to larger cross-functional initiatives, with support from an experienced and tech-savvy accounting team.

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Product, Engineering, Finance) to assess accounting implications of new business initiatives and develop scalable processes.

  • Assist with ongoing accounting projects such as system implementations, and internal controls improvements

  • Build and enhance accounting workflows using tools like Alteryx, Databricks, and internally developed platforms to streamline reconciliations, automate analysis, and expedite journal entry preparation

  • Contribute to documentation, training, and knowledge sharing to scale implementations and workflows across Zillow’s accounting function

  • Support month-end or quarter-end activities on an as-needed basis, with a focus on strategic areas (e.g. new revenue streams, non-standard transactions).

  • Lead investigations into account changes and prepare flux analysis dashboards and/or workbooks

  • Assist with external audits and maintain supporting documentation, policies, and procedures to verify compliance

  • Undertake special projects and ad hoc assignments based on functional and business needs

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • CPA or CPA eligible

  • 4+ years of accounting experience, ideally with exposure to both public accounting and industry

  • Strong understanding of GAAP; experience with revenue recognition or deferred costs is a plus

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace

  • Advanced Excel skills with an interest and aptitude for working with and analyzing large amounts of data; experience with SQL is a plus

  • Experience working with and building accounting process automations using tools like Alteryx or Tableau

  • Familiarity with ERP and OTC systems (such as Workday and Zuora) is a plus

  • Experience supporting or managing projects or initiatives through the full lifecycle, from scoping and design to implementation and post-launch support

  • Experience using project management tools like Asana or Jira to organize tasks and collaborate across teams is a plus

  • Strong business acumen and comfortable digging into operational data, asking questions, and identifying edge cases

  • Adaptability and a growth mindset, with a passion for learning and taking on new challenges in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills—you can explain technical accounting to both finance and non-finance audiences and present information clearly and concisely in live settings.

  • A desire to help build a modern, technology-forward accounting function

  • Here at Zillow - we value the experience and perspective of candidates with non-traditional backgrounds. We encourage you to apply if you have transferable skills or related experiences
