Software Engineer II (Backend or Fullstack) - Custom Data

About the Team
Zendesk’s flagship product, Zendesk Support, is built to help businesses create seamless customer experiences with powerful, yet intuitive, customization capabilities. Our team owns the data customization platform, enabling large enterprise customers to bring critical business data into Zendesk and model their unique workflows and processes. By providing the foundation for custom data modeling, we empower businesses to extend Zendesk’s capabilities to meet their exact operational needs.
What you’ll be doing
Work collaboratively with a focused, self-organizing team to deliver impactful customer data solutions.
Own the full software development lifecycle from design and implementation to deployment and monitoring.
Actively write, review, and maintain high-quality, well-tested code daily.
Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and design discussions to uphold engineering best practices.
Collaborate closely with product managers and designers to translate requirements into scalable features.
Engage in Agile Scrum processes including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
Proactively contribute to improving code quality, system reliability, and operational runbooks.
Handle incident management with a customer-first mindset, performing root-cause analysis and resolution.
What you bring to the role
Required:
2–4 years of professional software engineering experience with proficiency in at least one object-oriented language such as Ruby or Java.
Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases like MySQL and DynamoDB.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Spinnaker.
Strong understanding of API design principles and distributed systems.
Experience using monitoring and logging tools such as Datadog.
Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced agile environment.
Customer-focused approach to incident management and problem-solving.
Preferred:
Experience working on data integration platforms or customer context solutions.
Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and container orchestration technologies (AWS, Kubernetes).
Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and test-driven development.
Growth mindset with eagerness to learn new technologies and improve continuously.
Collaborative and pragmatic approach to delivering outcomes early and often.
Tech Stack
We mainly work with Ruby, React, and TypeScript, alongside some Java.
Data is stored in RDS MySQL, Redis, S3, ElasticSearch, and Athena
Our platform is built on AWS
Services are deployed to Kubernetes using Docker, Spinnaker, with Kafka for stream processing
Infrastructure health is monitored using Datadog and Sentry

The US annualized base salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$166,000.00. This position may also be eligible for bonus, benefits, or related incentives. While this range reflects the minimum and maximum value for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations, the offer for the successful candidate for this position will be based on job related capabilities, applicable experience, and other factors such as work location. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only (or OTE for commissions based roles), and do not include bonus, benefits, or related incentives.
Hybrid: In this role, our hybrid experience is designed at the team level to give you a rich onsite experience packed with connection, collaboration, learning, and celebration - while also giving you flexibility to work remotely for part of the week. This role must attend our local office for part of the week. The specific in-office schedule is to be determined by the hiring manager.
