As a Staff Structural Analyst on the Boom, Wing & HSTAB, and control surfaces stress team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the structural integrity of key aircraft components through rigorous analysis. Beyond direct hardware support, your primary responsibility will be in taking ownership of developing, validating, and implementing the essential stress analysis methodologies, tools, and allowables that underpin our engineering efforts for these structures long term certification substantiation needs. This position requires a seasoned engineer capable of deep technical contribution, proactive problem-solving, and driving foundational methods development within a dynamic aerospace environment.
This is a hybrid work opportunity. At Wisk, this means working onsite at our Mountain View office 3 days per week with flexibility for the remainder of the days.
What you will do:
- Own the development, validation, implementation, and improvement of stress analysis methodologies, tools, and allowables, including identifying gaps and coordinating standards.
- Develop, automate, and maintain engineering tools/scripts (e.g., Python, VBA) to enhance analysis accuracy and workflow efficiency.
- Perform detailed stress analysis (static strength, stability, fatigue, damage tolerance) on metallic and composite primary/secondary aircraft structures using FEA and classical hand calculations.
- Collaborate closely with Design, M&P, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Test teams throughout the product lifecycle; mentor other engineers on complex analysis and methods application.
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation (stress reports, methods docs, presentations) and ensure timely completion/prioritization of assigned development activities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or a related Engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in structural stress analysis, preferably in the aerospace industry (aircraft, rotorcraft, spacecraft).
- Demonstrated expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using tools such as Nastran, Abaqus, Patran, HyperMesh, or FEMAP.
- Strong proficiency in classical hand analysis techniques for metallic and composite structures.
- Proven experience and accomplishment in developing, validating, or significantly improving stress analysis methodologies, material allowables (e.g., statistical analysis, test data reduction), or analysis tools.
- Solid understanding of structural mechanics, material behavior (metals, composites), and structural failure modes.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- This role will require occasional travel between offices, supplier locations, test facilities, etc.
