Be part of what truly makes us special and impactful.The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a talented Litigation Manager for our Labor &amp; Employment legal team in San Antonio, Texas.As a dedicated Litigation Manager in Labor &amp; Employment, you will manage and guide outside counsel in crafting litigation strategy on sophisticated cases. Collaborates and facilitates cross-functional teams in the strategy development and implementation of litigation solution. Guides the business on strategy in the pursuit of case resolution and offers business solutions to handle litigation risk.We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based at our San Antonio, TX corporate office location. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.<h2>What youll do:</h2><ul><li>Responsible for managing legal cases considered high profile, high exposure, which may involve EC and/or BoD awareness and/or potential for significant enterprise impact.</li><li>Participates in formulating, communicating, and briefing case strategy to internal legal team and/or business leaders.</li><li>Prepares case evaluations and requests for settlement authority in cases with potential for significant enterprise impact.</li><li>Research moderately complex to complex cases and integrates information. Forms responses and submits responses to legal and regulatory requests.</li><li>Conducts case activities to include investigating case facts, creating a litigation plan, reviewing and revising pleadings, and representing USAA at mediations and trials.</li><li>Reviews and analyzes files, policies, company documents, and witnesses to evaluate exposure, respond to discovery requests and aid outside and in house counsel in case strategy. Analyzes demographic or statistical data to mitigate risk.</li><li>Participates in the legal discovery process including preparing materials for production, deposition preparation sessions and depositions, and assisting in identification and preparation of witnesses for depositions and trials.</li><li>Creates Legal Hold documents and monitors the EDiscovery process to ensure USAA is compliant with State and Federal Rules.</li><li>Identifies opportunities, synthesizes analyses, identifies root cause(s), and provides recommendations that influence litigation case solutions.</li><li>Acts as a liaison with internal and external counsel, management, and other external parties. Applies proficient knowledge of litigation and its processes.</li><li>Provides input and expertise on cases within a single CoSA and may assist on cases impacting multiple CoSAs.</li><li>Under minimal attorney supervision, researches, forms responses, and submits to legal and regulatory requests.</li><li>Provides insight on issues and process improvements.</li><li>Serves as a resource to team members, others in General Counsel, and business clients.</li><li>Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.</li></ul>What you have:<ul><li>Bachelors degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum required) may be substituted in lieu of a degree.</li><li>4 years experience in litigation as a paralegal handling complex litigation or relevant work.</li><li>Proficient knowledge of relevant statutes, case law and regulations in relevant discipline.</li><li>Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office tools to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.</li><li>Proficient knowledge of relevant enterprise discipline (labor &amp; employment, or P&amp;C, Bank, etc).</li></ul>What sets you apart:<ul><li>Experience working as a Paralegal focusing on labor &amp; employment litigation matters within a law firm or corporate legal department.</li><li>Knowledge of federal and state employment laws (Title VII, ADA, FMLA, ADEA, wage/hour) and defense of related litigation matters.</li><li>Skilled in using legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis), document management systems, and other legal technology.</li><li>Experience in managing all aspects of discovery, including legal holds, potential witness interviews, document review, written discovery, and depositions.</li><li>Experience with alternative dispute resolution methods, particularly mediation and arbitration of labor &amp; employment disputes.</li><li>US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.</li></ul>Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $77,120 - $147,390.USAA does not provide visa sponsorship for this role.
