Be part of what truly makes us special and impactful.The OpportunityThe Executive Director of Solution Engineering (Bank) is a visionary and technically astute leader responsible for guiding the bank’s top-tier solution engineering team. This role demands a deep understanding of banking domains, enterprise architecture, and IT strategy. The leader will serve as a trusted advisor to the CIO, translating complex business needs into scalable, secure, and innovative technical solutions. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills to engage with General Managers and business leaders, evaluate vendor technologies, and recommend strategic solutions that align with the bank’s business needs and roadmap.This role is remote eligible in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel. However, individuals residing within a 60-mile radius of a USAA office will be expected to work on-site four days per week.<h2></h2><h2>What youll do:</h2><ul><li>Lead and mentor a high-performing team of Solution Engineers focused on delivering enterprise-grade banking solutions.</li><li>Translate business strategies and requirements into comprehensive technical solution designs.</li><li>Collaborate with senior business stakeholders to understand strategic goals and proactively identify technology opportunities.</li><li>Evaluate, recommend, and integrate vendor products and emerging technologies that align with the bank’s objectives.</li><li>Ensure architectural consistency, scalability, and security across all solution designs.</li><li>Maintain and evolve reference architectures, blueprints, and portfolio-level designs.</li><li>Drive innovation and thought leadership in banking technology domains.</li><li>Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, Infrastructure, and Application teams to ensure cohesive solution delivery.</li><li>Communicate technical strategies and risks effectively to executive leadership.</li><li>Establish governance and best practices for solution engineer across the bank.</li><li>Represent the bank in external technical forums and contribute to industry thought leadership.</li><li>Demonstrate high accountability and ownership for solution outcomes and architectural integrity.</li><li>Participating in activities that support the USAA technology ecosystem, such as workstream planning, solution design reviews, and troubleshooting.</li><li>Continuously assess and improve architectural/solutioning practices and team capabilities.</li><li>Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement within the solution engineering team.</li></ul><h2>What you have:</h2><ul><li>Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.</li><li>Master’s degree preferred.</li><li>12+ years of experience in software development, enterprise architecture, or IT strategy.</li><li>5+ years in a leadership role managing technical teams in a banking or financial services environment.</li><li>Proven experience in designing and implementing large-scale, secure, and scalable IT solutions.</li></ul>What sets you apart:<ul><li>Deep expertise in banking domains including core banking, digital channels, payments, and risk management.</li><li>Strong architectural knowledge across cloud, data, application, and security domains.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to evaluate and integrate third-party vendor solutions.</li><li>Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, including executive-level presentations.</li><li>Experience with regulatory compliance, risk frameworks, and secure solution design.</li><li>Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence enterprise-wide technology decisions.</li><li>Strategic mindset with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and innovation.</li><li>Familiarity with Agile, DevSecRegOps, and modern software development methodologies.</li><li>US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner</li></ul><h2></h2><h2>Preferred Certifications</h2><ul><li>TOGAF,</li><li>AWS/Azure Architect,</li></ul>Salary: The salary range for this position is: $169,880-$305,780.Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive.
