The Opportunity

The Director, Corporate Real Estate Capital Planning and Finance leads a team of financial accountants, analysts and capital plan strategists in the development, management, accounting and reporting of the Corporate Real Estate (CRE) Capital Plan. Plans, evaluates, and prioritizes potential projects as a part of a continuous planning cycle to ensure appropriate investments are made in USAA’s Real Estate Portfolio. Performs in an advisory capacity to operational business leaders on matters pertaining to business initiatives or strategies. Ensures alignment with CRE and USAA strategic objectives and provides comprehensive oversight of all efforts. Serves as a subject matter expert and mentor to less experienced team members and resolves issues and navigates obstacles to deliver results.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in the following location: San Antonio, TX.

What youll do:

  • Leads development of the CRE Capital Plan, comprised of projects and program initiatives to extend across USAA’s CRE Real Estate portfolio, to include expansion of the portfolio, renovation of real estate portfolios, life cycle replacement of infrastructure and critical infrastructure, operational furniture and equipment budgets.
  • Applies authoritative knowledge of business operations, design, construction or engineering to ensure efforts are prioritized appropriately and that budgets and schedules are reasonable.
  • Leads and makes decisions on multi-million dollar and highly complex, strategic programs/portfolios.
  • Performs in an advisory capacity to operational business leaders on matters pertaining to business initiatives or strategies. Collaborates and maintains positive relationships with business partners.
  • Aggregates monthly project financials to measure overall performance against Capital Plan, reports variances and collaborating with team members to identify strategic opportunities to handle to plan. Prepares briefings and communicates to all levels of COSA staff and executive management of financial performance and goal accomplishment.
  • Applies GAAP and regulatory accounting treatment to complex accounting transactions and demonstrates understanding of key implications and can resolve or recommend changes to executive management.
  • Acquires and applies sophisticated knowledge of the business to resolve issues and provide informed, proactive reporting and analysis to enable effective decision making.
  • Experience performing, maintaining and reviewing Internal Controls for Reporting (ICFR) and any related User Defined Applications (UDA’s) to ensure effective and efficient financial processes and controls.
  • Fixed asset subject matter authority (SME) for CRE owned and leasehold improvement assets.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret new and proposed changes to asset profiles, depreciation terms and capitalization thresholds.
  • Attracts, develops, expands, and retains high performing teams of professionals that deliver outcomes and key results.
  • Cultivates talent through coaching and training.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management or a Bachelors degree in another field coupled with a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required; 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree (12 years total in lieu of a degree).
  • 8 years of meaningful work experience performing standard CRE Capital Planning, project management, CIP accounting functions, including preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations and preparing financial results for internal and external purposes or other similar experience.
  • 3 years of people leadership experience in building, leading and/or developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong experience in understanding financial acumen in construction accounting concepts, e.g. depreciation, cost segregation, in-service placement, and asset retirement.
  • Ability to demonstrate diplomacy and effective problem resolution skills in oral and written communication.

  • Solid background within construction accounting or finance.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $127,310.00 - $229,160.00.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

 

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
