We’re building products that bring speed, simplicity, and inclusivity to an industry notorious for its friction and opacity. Our first offering—a radically faster, more accessible Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC)—is already gaining strong traction. Now we’re expanding the team to scale our HELOC experience and lay the foundation for future mortgage products. As a Principal Product Designer on Home Lending, you’ll shape the end-to-end experience for Upstart’s HELOC product, rethinking the application journey from the ground up. You’ll own the design strategy across acquisition, onboarding, qualification, pricing, and offer presentation—creating an experience that is intuitive, elegant, and grounded in trust. You’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, Machine Learning, and Legal/Compliance to ensure that the experience meets both user needs and regulatory standards. And youll mentor other designers as we grow the team and the product.   Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote Time Zone Requirements - This team operates across all U.S. time zones. Travel Requirements - As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
