We partner with the business and own our platform of internal tools throughout their lifecycle -- intake, prioritization, buy/build, implementation, support and retirement.</p> <h2><strong>About the Role</strong></h2> <p>We are looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join Thumbtack’s Business Applications team. This team builds the scalable backend tooling and infrastructure that powers our frontline sales and service, commercial operations, and trust &amp; safety organizations.</p> <p>You’ll design and implement modular backend services that support our Help Center, Contact Center, CX AI Platforms, CRM, and trust and safety operational systems. Your work will drive higher pro supply through more effective sales campaigns, deliver stronger support experiences, and strengthen the systems that keep our marketplace safe.</p> <p>This role will also shape how we integrate third-party enterprise tools (Salesforce, contact center platforms, etc.) with Thumbtack’s backend product services. These integrations will unlock automation and AI-driven workflows (e.g., via Conversational AI), accelerating our ability to support pros, customers, and business functions at scale. As our ecosystem grows and matures, this engineer will help develop sustainable architecture that enables real-time event-driven systems, handling of large data volumes, and personalization at scale.</p> <h2><strong>What youll do </strong></h2> <ul> <li>This is a hands-on role that will require a high level of autonomy in their work and the ability to make decisions as the founding Engineer supporting the Business Applications team.</li> <li>Unlock and expand write-based and read-based integrations with our product systems (e.g., via GraphQL, APIs) for real-time data pulls.</li> <li>In the near term, building out a microservices architecture to allow Business Application tools to be integrated with product services.</li> <li>Longer term, expanding the existing event-based integrations framework for Salesforce and other 3rd-Party tools into a more scalable, BusApps-owned architecture.</li> <li>Partner with Commercial Operations and Trust &amp; Safety to deliver backend infrastructure for campaigning, alerting, and automation.</li> <li>Collaborate with relevant AI/ML teams to unlock automation and LLM-driven workflows, powering initiatives like Conversational AI.</li> <li>Contribute to backend best practices — service architecture, event-driven systems, monitoring, and resiliency — to scale internal tools into a cohesive platform.</li> </ul> <h2><strong>In order to be successful, you must bring</strong></h2> <ul> <li>4+ years experience in backend engineering, with experience building microservice architectures and online services.</li> <li>Experience building and maintaining integration frameworks, middleware, or service layers that connect enterprise SaaS business tools (e.g., Salesforce, Zendesk, contact center platforms) to backend systems. </li> <li>Fluent in at least one major programming language (Go, Python, Java, or similar) and are able to work with multiple coding languages. You have experience building software using databases (e.g. Postgres, DynamoDB, etc.).</li> <li>Experience developing event-driven architectures, messaging systems, or workflow engines.</li> <li>Track record of working cross-functionally with infra, product, and business teams to deliver scalable systems.</li> <li>Hands-on experience building and operating services in cloud environments (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure) with secure service entry points, managing authentication/authorization, and implementing scalability and resiliency patterns.</li> </ul> <h2><strong>Expected salary ranges</strong></h2> <ul> <li><span>For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, San Jose, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $200,900 - $259,900. </span></li> <li><span>For candidates living in Austin, TX or Washington DC metros or in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Washington states, the expected salary range for the role is currently $180,800 - $234,000. </span></li> <li><span>For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $170,800 - $221,000.</span></li> </ul> <p><span>Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.</span></p> <p><span>#LI-Remote</span></p><div><p><span>Thumbtack embraces diversity.
