As a leader and senior individual contributor in our Hardware Engineering group, youll be operating on a global scale in a newly developed team within the Play Engineering organization in Product Innovation and Design at the LEGO Group in Boston!
Core Responsibilities:
Serve as a senior individual contributor in the specification, integration, and validation of battery cells, battery packs, and battery management systems in complex mechatronic systems that enable awesome play experiences.
Partner with global suppliers and internal cross functional team members across North America, Europe, and Asia to deliver high quality and safe battery-powered designs to the toy market
Develop and execute detailed test plans to validate in-system battery performance, quality, safety, reliability, and longevity that meet both internal and industry standards
Support the hardware design, quality engineering, and operations teams in maturing development procedures, quality, and shipping/logistics standards for battery-powered designs
Work with commodity management and operations teams in maintaining up-to-date intelligence on emerging technologies, industry trends, and the competitive landscape
Evaluate new battery technologies, chemistries, and assembly techniques for use in mechatronic toy applications

The Senior Battery Engineer plays an important individual contributor role in the Electronics Engineering function in our Hardware and Embedded Systems Engineering team. This team operates on a global scale within the Play Engineering organization in Product & Marketing Development at the LEGO Group. LEGO Play Engineering is expanding our global footprint to help advance groundbreaking innovations that will redefine the future of play for the builders of tomorrow.
You will be a subject matter expert in batteries, partnering with design engineering, manufacturing engineering, operations, and suppliers to design safe and high performance systems that are manufacturable and reliable. You will be exposed to various battery suppliers, highly complex systems with unique technical challenges, and you will be entrusted with delivering the high quality battery-powered devices expected from a brand like the LEGO Group.
The role can be based in Boston, Massachusetts or Billund, Denmark.
Do you have what it takes?
Bachelor Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field
A builder with passion for creatively using technology as a vehicle to deliver truly awesome play experiences to children around the world.
Vast hands-on experience in battery development, testing, and qualification for high volume toy, robotics, or consumer electronics applications where quality and safety are prioritized.
In-depth knowledge of relevant global battery safety, performance, and transportation standards (IEC 62133-2, IEC 62368-1, IEC 62115, UN 38.3, UL 1642, UL2054, ASTM F963, etc) and experience navigating the certification process with global certification agencies
Experience with specifying battery performance tests, executing validation using standard battery test equipment (battery cyclers, environmental chambers, X-ray/CT machines) and applying statistical analysis techniques to draw meaningful conclusions from the data
Practical understanding and experience with battery reliability over time/temperature/humidity, battery manufacturing processes and quality control principles, and failure analysis techniques
Track record of strong written and verbal communications skills on global engineering efforts involving both internal and 3rd party partner companies.
Ability to travel as necessary, roughly 15-30 days per year, as part of our global team.
Location
This position can be based at our LEGO office at Boylston St, Back Bay, Boston or at the Global Headquarters in Billund, Denmark. Candidates are eligible to apply for the roles at either location.

Compensation
The salary for this position based on Boston* has a range of $113,000 - $169,000 with bonus eligibility, which is based on anticipated responsibilities, market benchmarks, and organizational constraints. The LEGO Group carefully considers a wide range of compensation factors, including but not limited to prior experience, skills, expertise, location, internal equity, and other considerations permitted by law. The comprehensive remuneration details, inclusive of benefits, will be communicated upon finalization of the employment offer.

Compensation
The salary for this position has a range of $113,015.00 - $169,523.00 based on anticipated responsibilities, market benchmarks, and organizational constraints. The LEGO Group carefully considers a wide range of compensation factors, including but not limited to prior experience, skills, expertise, location, internal equity, and other considerations permitted by law.
