The Texas A&M University Medical Sciences Library (MSL) is seeking a Library Associate I to serve as the face of our Round Rock campus library. In this role, you’ll be the first point of contact for students, faculty, and staff providing advanced support in circulation, reference, and document delivery services.  

This is more than just a library position—we’re looking for someone who will embed themselves in the Round Rock community. You’ll build relationships with faculty, stay in tune with student needs (like knowing when exams are happening), and support both the medical and nursing schools on campus. You’ll also collaborate with colleagues across regional sites and College Station to ensure seamless service delivery. Opportunities to Contribute  

  • Acts as initial information point for the Medical Sciences Library (MSL) at the Round Rock campus and represents the library as embedded staff. 

  • Provides advanced circulation assistance and instruction on electronic and print information sources. 

  • Uses advanced reference tools and databases to answer routine and complex questions, referring patrons to librarians as needed. 

  • Interprets, explains, and applies library policies; ensures safety and emergency procedures are followed. 

  • Communicates with faculty, staff, and students in person, online, and by phone to address information needs. 

  • Resolves equipment and technical issues related to library services. 

  • Participates in student events and introduces library services to Round Rock patrons. 

  • Identifies and leads efforts to improve services and the library experience at the assigned location. 

  • Maintains daily statistics on client inquiries and usage. 

  • Collaborates with MSL staff at College Station and regional sites to manage the onsite collection, circulation, reserves, and use policies. 

  • Ensures consistent and effective delivery of library services and resources through regular communication with Client Services and regional peers. 

  • Participates in meetings, planning, and policy development; provides feedback on services, goals, and priorities. 

  • Communicates with the Client Services Coordinator regarding client needs, space usage, and problem-solving. 

  • Actively develops job-related skills and participates in team projects or special assignments. 

Salary: $22.82 per Hour 

Location: The successful candidate for this position can expect to work onsite Monday through Friday in Round Rock, Texas as a valuable contributor to the campus community.  

Please note: The Library Associate I position is a staff (non-librarian) role. While this position offers room for growth in job responsibilities and level, it is not intended to transition into a librarian position. 

Qualifications  

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

  • Seven years’ experience in a public, academic or specialized library or archive. 

  • Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items. 

  • Ability to handle material which can contain dust or microscopic mold spores. 

A well-qualified candidate would also possess 

  • Library Support Staff Certification from American Library Association (ALA). 

  • Bachelor’s Degree. 

  • Previous work experience at a medical library. 

  • Previous work experience at a remote location and or being the sole staff. 

  • Experience working in an academic setting. 

  • Knowledge of health sciences literature and/or medical terminology. 

  • Two years TAMU experience as a Library Specialist III. 

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.  

  • Thorough knowledge of library functions and expert knowledge of unit functions. 

  • Knowledge of email, word processing, spreadsheet applications and complex and varied library online research database searches and/or processing.  

  • Conflict resolution skills 

  • Reliable attendance.   

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.  

  • Ability to adapt to a changing working environment 

  • Attention to detail and accuracy 

  • Strong communication, planning, and interpersonal skills 

  • Ability to think critically and have good decision-making skills.
