The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to join our team as the Assistant Dean for Research. In this key leadership position, you’ll oversee the daily operations of our research administration, ensuring alignment with the Dean’s strategic vision while supporting a thriving research environment. You’ll serve as a vital resource for faculty, guiding them through research-related processes and connecting them with the right support—from compliance and contracts to pre- and post-award services—through close collaboration with Sponsored Research Services (SRS). This role also offers the opportunity to build strong partnerships across divisions, colleges, and departments throughout the University and System, helping to elevate the College’s research enterprise. Opportunities to Contribute

  • Develops and implements strategic plans and initiatives to advance research administration and align with college goals.

  • Provides leadership and direction for research personnel, including input on vision, staffing, and budget planning.

  • Collaborates across divisions, colleges, departments, and university systems to support and enhance faculty research.

  • Coordinates with Undergraduate and Graduate Studies teams to align and support research-focused activities.

  • Oversees research compliance, ensuring adherence to university, state, and federal regulations, as well as System and SRS guidelines.

  • Serves as the primary liaison with Sponsored Research Services (SRS), shared services, and centralized research functions.

  • Supports faculty with research-related processes, including compliance, funding, and administrative navigation.

  • Partners with the finance team to develop and monitor research budgets, financial reports, and funding data.

  • Prepares and submits required reports and documentation for university and external stakeholders.

  • Builds strong relationships with faculty, staff, and leadership, representing the unit on university councils, committees, and working groups.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Six years of related senior administrative experience.

A well-qualified candidate will also possess

  • Proven ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with research offices, faculty, and principal investigators across campus and system.

  • Extensive experience in research administration within a research-intensive environment, including pre/post-award support, compliance, and contracts.

  • Strong experience in financial planning, budgeting, financial tracking, and reporting.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

  • Skilled in supervising teams, organizing workflows, and facilitating group interactions with multiple populations.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with knowledge of business analysis tools, databases, and AI applications.

  • Ability to multitask, adapt to changing priorities, and work cooperatively with a wide range of personalities.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience.
