As an Associate Social Researcher, Inclusive Culture, Design, Acumen & Engagement you will support the development of insights and recommendations that inform inclusive product design practices across Target’s Brands portfolio. You will conduct primary qualitative research using a variety of techniques, from study design support and facilitation to analysis and reporting. Your work will help deliver actionable insights that make Target even more guest-centric and better reflect the needs and experiences of all consumers.

You will help put the guest at the center of our brands, products, packaging, and experiences. You will stay inspired by tracking social and cultural shifts, demographic trends, and new research methods to expand Target’s impact. Under the direction of the Senior Designer, Inclusive Culture & Design you will be accountable for supporting inclusive design strategies and initiatives to achieve overall social design objectives. Your role is focused on elevating race & culture, gender, ageing, and cognitive & physical dimensions of difference. You will help uncover opportunities and forward-looking insights that inform our work and support the continuous evolution of our products for future consumers and identify potential risks or reputational considerations to protect brand integrity and reinforce guest loyalty.

Responsibilities:

Research and Development

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research, including study design, and analysis
  • Synthesize insights into clear opportunities and potential risks that inform inclusive product design, uphold brand integrity and help minimize harm to communities
  • Monitor social, cultural, and consumer shifts that impact future product needs
  • Stay current on inclusive design insights and demographic trends to help identify emerging needs and translate knowledge into products, processes, and experiences
  • Maintain timely communication and reporting with leaders and partners

Knowledge Sharing

  • Help maintain inclusive research libraries and contribute to resources for designers and partners
  • Assist in translating research into accessible stories and frameworks that support inclusive design thinking
  • Participate in learning sessions, workshops, and resource-building activities with cross-functional teams
  • Analyze and summarize insights and data to support the development of inclusive design resources related to social sustainability, cultural understanding, and inclusive practices
  • Support the Inclusive Design Team in early-stage discovery and ongoing research activities

Internal and External Partnerships

  • Collaborate with partners across Design, Merchandising, and Enterprise teams to share insights and learnings
  • Explore and engage with external communities, subject matter experts, and partner organizations to amplify authentic voices
  • Support pilot testing and feedback activities with guests and partners

About You

  • 4-year degree in Design Research, Social Design, Anthropology, Psychology, Human-Centered Design, or a related field
  • Foundational understanding of qualitative research methods (e.g., interviews, fieldwork, diary studies) and comfort with quantitative methods (e.g., surveys, longitudinal studies)
  • Naturally inquisitive with a future-focused, systems-thinking mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to tell compelling stories from data and insights
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to prioritize; experienced in managing multiple projects of varying size and adjusting to changing priorities
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail
  • Collaborative spirit and growth mindset
  • Organized, adaptable, and energized by learning in fast-paced environments
  • Comfortable taking risks, driving change, and contributing new ideas
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
