We are looking for a Senior AI Clinical Research Scientist to join our Health Economics & Outcomes Research team. You will lead the design, implementation, and publication of studies that evaluate the safety and efficacy of the next generation of digital mental health tools. You’ll work cross-functionally to evaluate and automate safety monitoring pipelines and run benchmarking studies that compare AI outputs against human-delivered care.
What you’ll be doing:
- Design and execute research studies that evaluate the safety and efficacy of clinical AI tools
- Develop and operationalize automated safety monitoring plans, including real-time signal detection and alerting frameworks
- Collaborate with engineering and data teams to build feature-rich datasets, curate annotated transcripts, and automate labeling workflows
- Engage in customer and external-facing interactions to gather requirements and share findings around AI safety performance
- Author and submit high-impact academic manuscripts for peer review and conferences
What success looks like in this role:
- Submission of 2+ first-author publications or conference papers per year
- Deployment of at least one fully automated safety monitoring pipeline into production
- Positive stakeholder feedback on safety protocols and published study quality
What we expect from you:
- PhD in a quantitative field (e.g., Machine Learning, Computer Science, Biostatistics, Psychology)
- Track record of ≥ 3 first author pubs
- Expertise in LLM, AI/ML model development, validation, and backtesting
- Proficiency in Python and/or R
- Able to distill complex AI safety findings for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Self-starter with the ability to independently scope projects and solve novel problems
What we’d love to see (Bonus):
- Prior experience in clinical research settings or working with IRBs/DSMBs
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and MLOps frameworks
- Demonstrated passion for advancing AI safety and ethics in healthcare
- Experience building data pipelines and automation scripts
- Experience with A/B tests
The target base salary range for this position is $159,100 - $194,150, and is part of a competitive total rewards package including stock options and benefits. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all employee pay and compensation programs annually using Radford Global Compensation Database at minimum to ensure competitive and fair pay.
