In this role you will lead a team of front-end and back-end developers to build the next generation of products and shape our next generation architecture with a built-to-last mentality.  </div><h3>Shipping &amp; handling responsibilities:</h3><ul><li>Lead, and hire a high-caliber team of software engineers to solve company goals while remaining hands-on</li><li>Encourage innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement</li><li>Establish a sense of urgency and direction, set expectations with the team and individuals</li><li>Work closely with product management, analysts, architects, engineering leads, and business stakeholders to define requirements, guide product and architectural vision, lead key technical and design discussions, and prioritize delivery efforts</li><li>Anticipate and redirect engineering efforts that arent or won’t deliver customer value</li><li>Contribute to the technical success of the company by providing architectural guidance to Shippo’s next generation app product</li><li>Mentor more junior engineers on engineering best practices</li><li>Exceptional problem solving skills: demonstrated ability to understand business challenges and translate those into technical solutions.</li></ul><h3>Requirements</h3><ul><li>10+ years of hands-on engineering experience building high volume distributed systems</li><li>4+ years of experience leading engineering teams and defining technical strategy</li><li>4+ years in native cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)</li><li>4+ years with NoSQL technologies (DynamoDB) and event-driven cloud architectures (queues, serverless compute, data streaming</li><li>Proficiency in microservice architectural patterns</li><li>Consistent and demonstrable success designing and delivering scalable APIs, services, and distributed systems</li><li>Mastery in server-side languages (Go, Python, Java, Ruby) and database languages (SQL)</li><li>Proficiency with server-side frameworks (Django, .NET, Spring, Rails, Phoenix)</li><li>Mastery of OOP, design patterns, and architectural best practices; ability to guide others in applying them</li><li>Advanced expertise in building APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC)</li><li>Proficiency with DevOps tooling (Docker, Terraform, CircleCI, New Relic, PagerDuty)</li><li>Expertise with AWS/Cloud Services</li><li>Consistent leadership in debugging, performance optimization, and system scalability</li><li>Exceptional communication skills; able to align engineers, cross-functional peers, and stakeholders</li><li>Customer-centric mindset with the ability to balance technical trade-offs against business impact</li><li>BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience</li></ul><h3>Bonus</h3><ul><li>Experience in shipping or logistics</li><li>Integrating with devices and device management (QR, Barcode, Third-Party print solutions).</li></ul><div><b>Our Compensation <i>Ship</i>policy:</b></div><div>We believe compensation is a custom experience and are commited to fair and equitable compensation practices. The standard base pay range for this role is min is $175k to a max $238k annual salary. Since we are focused on hiring Shippos Everywhere, we have 2 US pay ranges, a standard compensation range for the majority of the US and a standard +1 compensation range for those who live in areas where the cost of labor is higher, such as NYC and California.</div><div>The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: financial budgets, work experience, training, transferable skills, business needs, and market value. The base pay salary ranges are subject to change and may be modified in the future.
