In this role youll collaborate with our product team, lead other engineers and contribute to create and maintain systems that enable our user’s most critical workflows through our web app.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><h3>Shipping &amp; Handling responsibilities:</h3><ul><li>Lead the design and delivery of end-to-end solutions spanning APIs, services, databases, and modern UIs</li><li>Drive execution on multi-quarter goals, often coordinating with and mentoring 2–3 engineers</li><li>Build and maintain robust, well-tested code, ensuring features are delivered reliably to production</li><li>Develop reusable components and patterns that improve product consistency and scalability across teams</li><li>Lead architectural discussions and contribute to technical strategy</li><li>Partner closely with product and design to shape requirements, balance innovation with technical trade-offs, and advocate for customer value</li><li>Provide technical leadership in planning and review, ensuring clarity, feasibility, and alignment</li><li>Champion QA and test automation to strengthen quality and operational excellence</li><li>Design and implement telemetry, metrics, and tools to analyze user behavior, system health, and business impact</li><li>Drive iterative improvements, ensuring continuous delivery of value and reduction of technical debt</li></ul><h3>Requirements</h3><ul><li>7+ years of software development experience, with a strong track record of building and maintaining distributed systems</li><li>Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript</li><li>Deep experience with modern UI frameworks (React with hooks and context API) and libraries (Redux, Tanstack Query, MUI)</li><li>Proficiency in server-side programming (Python, Go, Java, Ruby) and microservice frameworks (FastAPI, RESTful services)</li><li>Strong knowledge of software design principles, OOP, and architectural patterns; ability to coach others on applying them</li><li>Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).Expertise with integrating with APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC)</li><li>Expertise with AWS/Cloud Services</li><li>Demonstrated success leading technical projects end-to-end, including mentoring peers and unblocking others</li><li>Skilled at debugging and optimizing full-stack applications for performance and scalability</li><li>Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills; able to explain technical trade-offs to diverse audiences</li><li>Passion for user-friendly, reliable applications with a focus on customer impact</li><li>BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).</li><div><br /></div></ul><h3>Bonus</h3><ul><li>Experience in shipping or logistics</li><li>Hands-on experience with DevOps tooling (Docker, Terraform, CircleCI, New Relic, PagerDuty)</li></ul><div><i>Sail</i> through the process:</div><div>Here at Shippo, we celebrate inclusivity and are committed to creating equal access to opportunities for people from all backgrounds, perspectives and geographies.
