As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.</div>About the role: The Safety Triage &amp; Insights team owns and develops systems and customer-facing products across web, mobile, and API surfaces that help fleets identify unsafe driving behaviors and recognize positive driving habits. By collaborating closely with other Safety teams, including ML &amp; AI engineering, we ingest sensor and media data, detect risky behaviors, and now leverage large language models (LLMs) to analyze safety events, surface patterns, and distill insights that allow safety managers to focus on what truly matters. As our scope grows beyond detection and remediation, the team is developing intelligent, higher-level products that provide proactive insights—empowering fleets to move from reactive coaching to strategic, data-driven safety management. As a Software Engineer II on this team, you will partner with Design and Product to evolve and expand our products, refine workflows based on customer input, and help deliver scalable, AI-driven solutions that make the world’s operations safer, smarter, and more efficient. Previous experience with these technologies is not required.</li> <li>Integrate large language models (LLMs) into safety workflows, design and run evaluations, and build feedback loops that continuously improve the accuracy, precision, and reliability of the insights delivered to safety managers.</li> <li>Own the operational health of production systems as we build for the future scale of an ever-growing customer base.</li> <li>Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.</li> </ul> Minimum requirements for the role: <ul> <li>2+ years of professional software development experience.</li> <li>Strong programming/coding fundamentals in a language such as Java, Python, or Golang.</li> <li>Knowledge of designing, architecting, developing, and monitoring full-stack applications at scale.</li> <li>Familiarity with integrating LLMs into products, including running evaluations and creating feedback loops to improve accuracy and usefulness of generated insights.</li> <li>Experience using data to investigate issues and make the right call to resolve them.</li> <li>An ability to estimate, communicate, and deliver on project milestones with your team.</li> <li>A growth mindset and excitement around building new skills and expertise.</li> </ul> An ideal candidate also has: <ul> <li>Experience leveraging tools such as Langfuse or Eino for evaluation, monitoring, and continuous improvement, and optimizing LLM-powered systems for cost and token efficiency.</li> <li>Background in web application development using modern frameworks such as React, Vue, Svelte.</li> <li>Knowledge of cloud computing platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and experience designing, developing, and managing cloud-based infrastructure and applications.</li> <li>Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.</li> </ul><div><div><div>Samsara’s Compensation Philosophy: Samsara’s compensation program is designed to deliver Total Direct Compensation (based on role, level, and geography) that is at or above market. We do this through our base salary + bonus/variable + restricted stock unit awards (RSUs) for eligible roles. For eligible roles, a new hire RSU award may be awarded at the time of hire, and additional RSU refresh grants may be awarded annually. We pay for performance, and top performers in eligible roles may receive above-market equity refresh awards which allow employees to achieve higher market.</div><div>The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below.
