Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.  The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The ME Team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon’s Six Sigma principles. ME’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.The Air Defense Ground Equipment (ADGE) Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of platform systems. This includes launcher systems, shelter systems, missile hardware, hardware integration, cable &amp; interconnections, as well as facility development, and site integration. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support.The ADGE department is looking for a full-time Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to support Patriot GEM-T Missile major components and sub-assemblies, including obsolescence upgrades, procurement and supplier support located in Tewksbury or Andover, MA (onsite)What You Will Do Key Responsibilities:<ul><li>Lead execution of major programs within the department, including shelter mechanical design, electronic equipment integration, end-item development, vendor coordination, and the integration of power and cooling systems. Support ongoing sustainment of existing product lines.</li><li>Support and lead cross-functional engineering teams, delivering solutions and services across all phases of the program lifecycle. This may include development of next-generation sensing technologies, enhancements to current products, transition to production, in-field upgrades, and vendor oversight.</li><li>Lead and contribute to proposal efforts and Estimate at Completion (EAC) activities, providing strategic and technical input.</li><li>Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) across multiple programs, providing critical and timely support to ensure successful execution and delivery.</li></ul>Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:<ul><li>Serve as a technical liaison to programs and Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), ensuring alignment across stakeholders.</li><li>Oversee the technical performance of the design team, providing engineering guidance and project support throughout the entire product lifecycle.</li><li>Support and lead Technical Data Package (TDP) development and conduct/oversee thorough peer reviews.</li><li>Lead mid- to large-sized cross-functional engineering teams as the technical execution lead across all development phases—from proposal generation and program start-up through requirements allocation, preliminary and detailed design, and into first article production.</li><li>Perform complex mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, subassemblies, and major end items for defense system applications, ensuring compliance with system requirements.</li><li>Provide product integration support for both domestic and international factories and suppliers.</li><li>Manage and meet schedule, cost, and technical performance commitments for assigned tasks and projects.</li><li>Apply deep knowledge of hardware engineering best practices to ensure technical excellence. The ability to partner effectively with Chief Engineers and technical leads is essential.</li></ul>Required Qualifications:<ul><li>Experience in a Mechanical Engineering role, including a minimum of 10 years focused on the design and development of mechanical equipment—preferably in military or defense environments.</li><li>Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.</li><li>Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams, with accountability for cost, schedule, and technical performance, along with project management experience in both budgeting and scheduling.</li><li>Proven ability to work in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, working across multiple engineering disciplines as well as with Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, IPT leadership, Program Management, and customers.</li><li>Hands-on mechanical design experience, including:<ul><li>Performing trade studies</li><li>Developing concepts through detailed design</li><li>Supporting transition to production</li><li>Providing ongoing production and supplier support</li></ul></li><li>Experience in executing Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) analyses, driving cost reduction initiatives, and producing engineering white papers or technical documentation.</li><li>Broad expertise in mechanical design, development, material selection, and manufacturing processes, with proficiency in CAD tools and associated Product Data Management (PDM) systems.</li><li>Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.</li><li>The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance and US passport is required.</li><li>U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.</li></ul>Desired Qualifications:<ul><li>Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering.</li><li>Working knowledge of military and commercial specifications and standards.</li><li>Hands-on experience in the design, fabrication, and integration of:<ul><li>Electronic assemblies including Circuit Cards</li><li>Power distribution equipment</li><li>Interconnects, Cables, and Harness systems</li></ul></li><li>Strong analytical and advanced problem-solving skills.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and achieve results with minimal conflict, while maintaining schedule and budget adherence.</li><li>Adaptability and flexibility to take on diverse and evolving assignments.</li><li>Recognized team player and self-motivated leader with strong collaboration skills.</li><li>Proven team leadership experience, including leading multi-disciplinary technical teams and the ability to develop, motivate, and monitor performance.</li><li>Demonstrated capability to develop technical solutions to complex system requirements.</li><li>Experience managing engineering budgets using Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and the Estimate at Completion (EAC) process.</li><li>Prior experience leading or contributing to proposal development.</li></ul>Requires expert or mastery level knowledge of work area, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.May have deep knowledge of project management.
