Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.The Precision Control Actuation System department is seeking a Sr. mechanical design engineer to join the PCAS organization to support the development, build, and verification of specialty control actuation systems (CAS), where the individual will specifically be responsible for design testing and verification, including hands-on test functions. This role supports an integrated product team and therefore requires cross-functional and cross-discipline collaboration.What You Will Do<ul><li>You will provide various mechanical engineering functions for a specialty CAS, including integration and testing of the CAS performance and functionality.</li><li>Based on skillsets, support may include but not limited to detailed mechanical design, earned value management, test design and execution, and systems engineering.</li><li>You will be expected to flex responsibilities based on the current needs of the organization and their respective skill sets.</li><li>At this grade level, you will be expected to work autonomously with limited oversight, have advanced knowledge of the control mechanism development domain, and coach and review the work of lower level professionals</li></ul>What You Will Learn<ul><li>The PCAS organization provides ample opportunities for hands-on hardware work, with a dedicated lab space at our Tucson facility.</li><li>PCAS mechanical engineers are exposed to a variety of lab activities including engineering builds, hardware integration, hardware tuning, and hardware verification.</li><li>The PCAS organization provides a strong technical learning environment with a dedicated control system technology pyramid comprised of engineering fellows.</li><li>PCAS mechanical engineers are provided the opportunity for direct access to these subject matter experts, fostering accelerated technical growth.</li></ul> Qualifications You Must Have<ul><li>Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.</li><li>A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering or 3 years related experience with an advance degree.</li><li>Experience in mechanism design OR flight control systems for aerospace applications</li></ul>Qualifications We Prefer<ul><li>Experience with aerospace control systems, including development and execution of verification and characterization tests and test programs</li><li>Experience collaborating with major subtier suppliers to achieve compliant design and test deliverables, as well as hardware</li><li>Experience using structured approaches to solving issues including Fault Trees and/or fishbone diagrams</li><li>Experience with Creo modeling software and Windchill/cPDM for TDP maintenance and support including peer review process, change board process, variances, supplier requests and change notices</li><li>Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics</li><li>Basic proficiency with model development and data analysis in MATLAB/Simulink</li><li>Experience working with and integrating hardware.</li><li>Systems engineering design and development</li><li>Experience with dSPACE Real-time test systems</li><li>Ability to estimate project / tasks level of effort</li><li>Ability to cross collaborate with geographically distributed teams</li><li>Experience and certifications in Earned Value Project Management</li><li>Ability to articulate, in both oral and written form, to technical, non-technical and management audiences</li></ul>What We OfferOur values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world.
