The Role:
As a Senior Software Engineer on Ro’s Patient Identity and Privacy team, you will play a crucial role in building and scaling privacy-first, compliant systems that enable personalized healthcare while safeguarding patient data. This role focuses on privacy engineering, consent management, event tracking, and first-party data governance—ensuring Ro’s technical foundation supports both patient trust and growth initiatives.
You’ll design, build, and maintain systems that handle customer data preferences, attribution data, event pipelines, and privacy-preserving data workflows. You will work in a highly cross-functional environment, partnering with security, legal, marketing, and data teams to define privacy-first solutions that balance compliance with Ro’s ability to deliver great patient experiences.
This role is not focused on Identity & Access Management (IAM) but may involve working alongside IAM engineers on broader data security initiatives.
What Youll Do
- Build and maintain privacy-first data systems, ensuring compliance with state and federal consumer privacy regulations.
- Develop and integrate consent and preference management systems, enabling patients to control their data usage across Ro’s platform.
- Design and implement high-throughput, scalable, event-driven architectures for the privacy-compliant collection, processing, and distribution of first-party data.
- Partner with marketing and growth teams to support digital advertising, CRM, and marketing analytics, while ensuring compliance and data security.
- Implement privacy-preserving techniques, such as data anonymization, tokenization, and minimization, to reduce risk while maintaining business utility.
- Work on event tracking and analytics pipelines, ensuring accurate and privacy-compliant data flows to third-party platforms (e.g., Braze, Google, Meta, Segment).
- Collaborate with security and legal teams to enforce data governance, retention, and compliance policies.
What You’ll Bring to the Team
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on data privacy, security, or large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience building scalable web applications.
- Experience with privacy-focused data engineering, including data minimization, anonymization, and access controls.
- Understanding of first-party data systems, event pipelines, and customer data platforms (CDP).
- Experience integrating CRM and marketing automation tools (e.g., Braze, Iterable, Twilio, Klaviyo, Customer.io).
- Familiarity with advertising attribution channels server-side tracking, and adtech integrations.
- Experience in regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, fintech), where compliance and security are key factors.
- Strong sense of ownership, ability to navigate ambiguity, and drive technical initiatives to completion.

The target for this position ranges from $179,000 to $212,000, in addition to a competitive equity and benefits package (as applicable). When determining compensation, we analyze and carefully consider several factors, including location, job-related knowledge, skills and experience. These considerations may cause your compensation to vary.
Ro recognizes the power of in-person collaboration, while supporting the flexibility to work anywhere in the United States. For our Ro’ers in the tri-state (NY) area, you will join us at HQ on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For those outside of the tri-state area, you will be able to join in-person collaborations throughout the year (i.e., during team on-sites).
