Our systems combine superconducting qubit technologies with integrated classical infrastructure, enabling cutting-edge research and real-world applications.</div><div><br /></div><div>The Internal Software team at Rigetti is responsible for supporting and accelerating the continual improvement of the companys quantum processor hardware: theory and design; fabrication; device characterization for process feedback; and calibration and deployment of our quantum processing units (QPUs) for benchmarking and application development. We own data infrastructure, web applications, and a framework for writing and rewriting calibration software in Python by teams of users/developers who specialize in experimental physics. We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who will drive improvements to data-intensive workflows, ensure platform reliability, and enable our engineers and scientists to build with speed, confidence, and clarity.</div><h3>Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Maintain and lead improvements to data-intensive services and applications written predominantly in Python</li><li>Measure and optimize performance of user-facing workflows across our suite of applications</li><li>Ensuring integrity of changing data via schema migrations, testing, and other mechanisms</li><li>Improve data platform observability for all stakeholders</li><li>Manage communications to users about service reliability, active priorities, and development roadmap</li></ul><h3>Required Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Advanced working knowledge of Python and its software development lifecycle</li><li>Working knowledge of SQL and RDBMSs</li><li>Experience with system architecture or domain modeling </li><li>Appetite for learning about user workflows and evaluating new approaches to building software</li></ul><h3>Preferred Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Experience or familiarity with: PostgreSQL, Python REST or RPC frameworks, Kafka or streaming technologies, AWS services (such as S3, RDS, EKS, and MSK), Palantir Foundry or other data warehouses</li><li>Ability to collaboratively improve the team’s developer experience</li><li>Passion for working with data and related systems</li></ul><div><span>As engineering leaders, we value diversity and are committed to building a culture of inclusion to attract and engage innovative thinkers.
