The Ansible engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer who thrives on clarity, organization, and collaboration to join our Platform Services team. In this role, youll be the bridge between product vision and engineering execution, ensuring our development team has well-defined, actionable work to build against.This is not a traditional coding role. While youll have an engineering title and work embedded with our development team, your primary focus will be on requirements analysis, backlog management, and stakeholder collaboration rather than writing production code.What you will do:<ul><li>Transform high-level product requirements into clear, detailed user stories and technical specifications</li><li>Work with product management and various stakeholders to understand needs and translate them into actionable tickets</li><li>Collaborate with product management and engineering leadership to maintain a prioritized, ready-to-work backlog</li><li>Run grooming sessions with the engineering team to ensure shared understanding before work begins</li><li>Define clear definition of done for each story to prevent ambiguity and rework</li><li>Test features in the application from a user perspective to ensure acceptance criteria are met and the user experience works as intended—supplementing the unit and integration tests engineers write</li><li>Be available to the team throughout sprints to answer questions and clarify requirements</li><li>Ensure the team has sufficient refined work available for upcoming sprints</li><li>Maintain clear documentation of requirements, decisions, and rationale</li></ul>  What you will bring:<ul><li>Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)</li><li>2+ years in a software development environment (engineering, business analysis, technical writing, or similar)</li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills—you can explain complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences</li><li>Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail</li><li>Experience with Agile methodologies and tools like Jira</li><li>Ability to ask the right questions and dig into ambiguity until requirements are clear</li><li>Comfortable facilitating meetings and collaborating across teams</li></ul>  The following is considered a plus:<ul><li>Experience writing user stories or technical requirements</li><li>Background in business analysis or product management</li><li>Technical understanding sufficient to have informed conversations with engineers (you dont need to code daily, but you should understand what engineers need to be successful)</li><li>Experience with software development lifecycle and how engineering teams work</li><li>Familiarity with API design, data modeling, or system architecture concepts</li></ul>The salary range for this position is $94,550.00 - $151,170.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.Pay TransparencyRed Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity.
