In the position of Principal Software Engineer you will work with a diverse team of highly motivated engineers on solving complex challenges by designing, implementing and productizing the Red Hat AI portfolio. Your focus will be on deep integration of the AI stack with hardware accelerators from leading vendors. This empowers our associates to focus on higher-impact work, creating smart, more innovative solutions that solve our customers most pressing challenges.What you will do<ul><li>Design and lead the packaging and productization of software for RH AI core platform components to leverage the power of hardware accelerators. </li><li>Work closely with Engineering, Product Management and Support stakeholders to prioritize features and bugs during all phases of development</li><li>Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for AI integration within the software development lifecycle, driving continuous improvement and innovation in engineering practices; share use cases for successful experiments with stakeholders for broader use.</li><li>Develop architectural and design principles with an eye on performance, resilience, scalability, security, technology constraints and comprehensibility.</li><li>Explore and experiment with emerging AI technologies relevant to software development, proactively identifying opportunities to incorporate new AI capabilities into existing workflows and tooling.</li><li>Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing LLMs for relevant tasks and proactively utilize AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) for code generation, auto-completion, and intelligent suggestions to accelerate development cycles and enhance code quality.</li><li>Communicate architectural concepts and decisions to various audiences</li><li>Be a coach and mentor to more junior members of the team and help expand their skills sets</li></ul>What you will bring<ul><li>Strong experience with RHEL or other Linux distributions</li><li>Strong experience with software development with programming languages such as Python, Go or similar</li><li>Problem solving and troubleshooting skills with a focus on root cause analysis</li><li>Experience with container technologies, such as Kubernetes/OpenShift and Podman</li><li>Hands-on learning and demonstrable experience with implementing and owning complex features individually and in collaboration with others</li></ul>Considered a plus<ul><li>Previous experience with hardware acceleration, either generic GPU experience or specific ones, such as CUDA and ROCm</li><li>Understanding of Python packing ecosystem</li><li>Knowledge of AI frameworks, such as PyTorch and/or TensorFlow</li><li>Familiarity with containerization and orchestration</li><li>Understanding of Open Source development models</li><li>Experience with test-base development and agile/scrum methodologies</li></ul>The salary range for this position is $189,600.00 - $312,730.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.Pay TransparencyRed Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity.
