This is a foundational role for Oura; as our first dedicated hire for supply chain sustainability, youll have the unique opportunity to build and lead this critical function from the ground up. You will be instrumental in identifying, developing, and implementing strategies that drastically reduce our ecological footprint, drive resource efficiency, and ensure responsible practices from component sourcing through end-of-life, championing adoption both internally and externally.Youll work cross-functionally with R&amp;D, Product, Manufacturing Engineering, Logistics, Customer Experience, and Legal teams, as well as our external manufacturing and logistics partners, to achieve ambitious sustainability targets. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, project management capabilities, and a passion for environmental stewardship, all aimed at building a more sustainable future for Oura and our planet.This is a US Hybrid (3 days per week) role based in our San Francisco, California office.What you will do:<ul> <li>Pioneer Ouras Supply Chain Sustainability Program: As the first dedicated expert, you will design, implement, and lead Ouras environmental sustainability strategy across the entire supply chain and product lifecycle. Youll ensure alignment with overarching corporate goals and drive its widespread adoption internally and externally with partners.</li> <li>Logistics &amp; Freight Optimization: Partner with logistics to identify and implement initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint of inbound and outbound logistics and freight, exploring modes like ocean freight optimization, sustainable fuels, and route efficiencies.</li> <li>Circular Economy &amp; Waste Management:</li> <ul> <li>Customer Returns &amp; E-waste: Develop and manage programs for responsible handling of customer returns, product refurbishment, and end-of-life management, including e-waste recycling and circularity initiatives. Youll establish new processes for the company in these areas.</li> <li>Manufacturing &amp; Assembly Waste: Drive programs to minimize waste generation (e.g., plastics, metals, hazardous materials) within manufacturing processes and assembly operations at our Contract Manufacturers (CMs), promoting recycling and waste-to-resource solutions.</li> </ul> <li>Manufacturing Energy Efficiency: Collaborate with CMs to assess and improve energy efficiency in their facilities, identifying opportunities for renewable energy adoption and reduced consumption related to Ouras production.</li> <li>Sustainable Components &amp; Materials: Partner with R&amp;D and engineering teams to research, evaluate, and integrate more sustainable materials and components into Oura products and packaging, considering lifecycle impacts.</li> <li>Carbon Footprint Measurement &amp; Reduction: Establish methodologies for measuring Ouras manufacturing and supply chain carbon footprint (Scope 3 emissions), identify key reduction levers, and track progress against targets, creating these systems where they dont yet exist.</li> <li>Carbon Credits &amp; Offsetting: Evaluate, recommend, and manage carbon offsetting strategies and carbon credit programs as part of Ouras broader climate action plan.</li> <li>Supplier Engagement &amp; Auditing: Work with suppliers and CMs to assess their environmental performance, develop improvement plans, and ensure compliance with Ouras sustainability standards and relevant regulations, driving partner adoption of new sustainable practices.</li> <li>Regulatory Compliance &amp; Reporting: Stay abreast of evolving environmental regulations (e.g., EPR, RoHS, REACH) and industry best practices. Ensure Ouras supply chain operations remain compliant and support necessary reporting requirements.</li> </ul>Stakeholder Collaboration &amp; Communication: Act as the primary subject matter expert for environmental sustainability, championing its importance, educating internal teams, fostering a sustainability mindset across departments, and communicating Ouras progress to internal and external stakeholders.We would love to have you on our team if you have:<ul> <li>Minimum of 7+ years of experience in environmental sustainability, manufacturing operations, or supply chain, with a proven focus on implementing sustainability initiatives in a hardware or consumer electronics company</li> <li>Demonstrated experience in building and leading new programs or functions, particularly in sustainability, within an organization</li> <li>Strong understanding of manufacturing processes for consumer products (e.g., electronics assembly, injection molding, metal fabrication)</li> <li>Proven expertise with carbon footprint accounting and reduction strategies (e.g., GHG Protocol, Scope 1, 2, 3 emissions), including experience with carbon credits or offsetting programs</li> <li>Proven expertise in waste management principles, particularly regarding e-waste, manufacturing waste, and circular economy concepts</li> <li>Experience in sustainable logistics and freight optimization, including familiarity with various transportation modes and their environmental impacts</li> <li>Knowledge of sustainable material science and experience in evaluating the environmental impact of components and materials used in product manufacturing</li> <li>Familiarity with manufacturing energy efficiency opportunities and renewable energy integration in factory settings</li> <li>Understanding of relevant environmental regulations (e.g., EPR, WEEE, RoHS, REACH) and industry certifications</li> <li>Excellent project management skills, with the ability to lead complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and external partners</li> <li>Strong analytical skills, with the ability to collect, interpret, and present data to drive informed decisions</li> <li>Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing, collaborating, and building strong relationships across diverse teams and cultures</li> <li>A strong pioneering spirit, a passion for environmental sustainability, and a proactive, problem-solving mindset</li> <li>Willingness to travel internationally as needed (up to 30%, for supplier engagement and factory visits)</li> </ul>
